Allison House Student Accommodation | Broken Hill, NSW

Help create a home away from home for rural and remote students

Allison House is reopening in 2027 and is seeking caring, enthusiastic and community-minded House Parents to support students who relocate to Broken Hill from rural and remote communities to access secondary education.

This is a rewarding chance to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people while becoming part of a community-based, not-for-profit organisation committed to improving access to education.

Applications from couples are encouraged due to the nature of the live-in role and student supervision requirements.

About Allison House

Allison House provides safe, welcoming and affordable accommodation for students in Years 7–12 attending local schools in Broken Hill. Students come from rural and remote communities across Far West NSW, South Australia and Queensland, with many living away from home for the first time.

Unlike traditional boarding schools, Allison House is an independent, family-style student accommodation service. Students attend local schools while receiving the care, stability and support of a genuine home environment.

Our aim is to ensure every student feels safe, valued, connected and supported, while maintaining strong relationships with their families, communities and culture.

About the Role

House Parents play an important role in the day-to-day lives of our students. You will provide supervision, guidance and encouragement while creating a safe, supportive and positive home environment.

The role is primarily a residential supervision position, involving mornings, afternoons, evenings, overnight periods and weekends. It may suit a couple, people working flexible hours or from home, or those seeking a meaningful lifestyle change.

Initially, Allison House anticipates approximately 6–15 students, with smaller numbers expected during the initial reopening period.
