The Kangaroo Island Landscape Board is looking for someone who can build strong relationships, communicate technical information clearly and provide practical land-management advice to landholders and the community.

Your ability to listen, explain complex information in plain language and work constructively with people will be just as important as your technical knowledge. ABOUT THE KANGAROO ISLAND LANDSCAPE BOARD The Kangaroo Island Landscape Board works with the community to care for the island’s land, water, coast and biodiversity while supporting productive and sustainable agriculture.

Our people are local experts and connectors who work alongside landholders, First Nations people, community organisations and industry groups to protect Kangaroo Island’s productive and natural landscapes. ABOUT THE ROLE The Sustainable Landscapes Officer contributes to the delivery of the Kangaroo Island Landscape Plan by providing land-management advice, education and on-ground support to private landholders, land managers, community organisations and industry groups.

The role has a particular focus on pest plant and animal control, water resource management and supporting landholders to understand and meet their responsibilities under the Landscape South Australia Act 2019.

As an authorised officer, the Sustainable Landscapes Officer will also undertake compliance activities relating to pest plants and animals, water-affecting activities and land management. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES The successful applicant will:

- provide clear,



practical and timely land and water management advice
- communicate technical and legislative information in a way that is easy to understand
- build constructive and cooperative relationships with landholders, community organisations and industry groups
- support landholders to manage pest plants, pest animals, watercourses and soil erosion
- coordinate projects and on-ground works within agreed budgets and timeframes
- undertake education, engagement and compliance activities
- contribute to policy development, planning, monitoring, evaluation and reporting
- represent the Board through workshops, presentations, publications and community forums. ABOUT YOU

First and foremost, you will be a confident and effective communicator who enjoys working with people.

You will be able to listen carefully, build trust and explain technical or regulatory matters in clear, practical language. You will be comfortable working directly with landholders and navigating conversations that may involve education, support or compliance.

You will also have sound knowledge of land and water management, including pest plant and animal control, watercourse management and soil erosion.

You will bring

- strong written and verbal communication skills
- demonstrated experience building collaborative relationships
- the ability to communicate technical information clearly to different audiences




- knowledge of natural resource management issues affecting Kangaroo Island
- project or program management experience
- experience with monitoring, evaluation and reporting
- proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using GIS
- a current driver’s licence.

Experience in natural resource management policy, regulatory compliance or enforcement is desirable. A tertiary qualification in natural resource management, environmental science or a related discipline is also desirable but is not essential. WHY JOIN US?
