Charge Nurse Manager – Murchison Hospital and Health Centre About the Role We are looking for an adaptable and energetic experienced Charge Nurse Manager for a permanent 1FTE position located in a rural setting, Murchison.
Primary responsibilities include leading a team delivering critical health services, managing 8‑hour shifts Monday to Friday (0700–1700), and participating in the on‑call PRIME roster. The role requires PRIME certification; candidates with prior PRIME experience will receive support to update their qualification.
Key duties
- Lead nursing staff in emergency medical and accident services, general primary care, and elderly residential care.
- Coordinate staffing and resources, ensuring culturally appropriate and safe care delivery.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and lead process, policy, and guidelines development.
- Act as a clinical mentor and champion transformational leadership within the senior nursing team.
Qualifications & Experience - Advanced clinical knowledge and expertise.
- Strong record of transformational leadership and effective change management.
- PRIME certification (desired); willingness to update qualification if eligible.
- Experience managing staff and coordinating resources in a pressured workplace.
- Commitment to excellence in patient care and to family‑centred, culturally appropriate care. Location & Setting Murchison is a rural service town with a permanent population of approximately 1,100, located halfway between Nelson and Westport (1.5hours travel). The hospital provides emergency services 24/7, general primary care, and elderly residential care, including palliative and respite care.
