Job Description
- Formally initiate every project via Project Charter, with a risk-based Forward Work and Execution Plans for every phase, with defined scope, schedule and budget etc (per HGM PEMS).
- Manage engineering and design consultants to scope, time and cost, escalating performance issues and upholding HGM PEMS requirements.
- Ensure facility designs meet appropriate standards, including Safety-in-Design and Pre-Construction Hazard Assessment reviews, with input from Project Owners and operational stakeholders.
- Lead timely Value Engineering reviews to ensure designs are fit for purpose, technically sound, safe and cost-effective.
- Lead or participate in Project Assurance and Safety-in-Design reviews, and ensure all formal Project Changes go through Change Management.
- Work closely with Corporate and Operational Project Owners to develop priority-based Project Initiation documents to inform the FY Budget process.
- Work closely with the Manager Construction to ensure field and site works are planned, resourced and communicated ahead of time, with operational interfaces clearly defined, incl. pre-constructability reviews and contractor mobilisation requirements are met prior to field works commencing.
- Ensure key project documentation and correspondence are recorded, revision-controlled and managed within HGM SharePoint.
- Track and report on Project progress (per HGM PEMS), maintaining up-to-date Change, Risk and Project Action Registers (one source), incl. flagging issues early
- Develop risk-based contracting strategies with Group Procurement, covering market engagement, tender evaluation, and contract formation and execution / execution & management (performance-based contracts).
- Ensure works under PO/contract meet Scope of Work requirements, including progress reporting,
claims and VDR submission.
- Prepare Operational Readiness Strategies, Plans and Schedules, with key operational stakeholder involvement, to transition each project into operations.
- Ensure every project has a formal Commissioning Plan in compliance with the HGM Commissioning Management Framework, and that MOC approvals and incident management processes are followed.
- Identify changes to construction and operational permits/licences, liaising with regulatory and community authorities as needed.
- Support the Manager Construction with regular SLT progress updates, lead EOM Project Reviews with OPSPMO and Operations SLT, and participate in VFSL and safety inspections.
- Lead Project Handovers and Close-outs, including punchlist walk-downs, lessons learned and performance reviews.
- Act as a Safety Ambassador, driving a culture of zero harm and protected, quality outcomes.
About the Employer

In Papua New Guinea, Harmony owns and operates the Hidden Valley mine and owns 50% of the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. About the Candidate
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Process/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; Project Management qualifications desirable.
- 15+ years "hands‑on" delivery experience across Resources and/or Heavy Industries in Project Management/Engineering roles, delivering end-to-end projects.
- Demonstrated experience delivering projects in a hard rock Mining operations, Process Plant and surface infrastructure setting
- Disciplined but pragmatic approach to designing and delivering plant and surface infrastructure debottlenecking/expansion projects.
- Strong contract management, risk and change management capability, with a strategic, continuous-improvement mindset.
- Excellent understanding of statutory requirements, with the ability to interpret Company policies and procedures and apply them across project build and post-project operations.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and relate this information to in-field works.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels, including timely escalation of potential challenges or issues.
- Proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint and Teams; basic user knowledge of Pronto (ERP) or equivalent.
- Proven ability to coach and mentor direct reports or peers.
- Current 'C' Class driver's licence and willingness to travel to remote locations across NSW, QLD and PNG.
Work Environment
Permanent opportunity, based at the Australasia Services Office. 5 on / 2 off roster, Opportunity to WFH 2 to 3 days per week., Salary will be negotiated commensurate with experience.
