About the Role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and driven Commis Chef to join Eureka 89's kitchen brigade on a casual basis. This hands-on role is ideal for a developing chef who wants to sharpen their skills in a rapid-paced, premium dining & events environment, working across carefully executed menus, elegant canapés, desserts, entrées and high-quality mise en place.
You’ll be supported by experienced chefs while also being trusted to take ownership of your section, work with minimal supervision and contribute to seamless service. From intimate Chef’s Tasting 6-course dinners to milestone celebrations, weddings & corporate events, every shift offers the opportunity to be part of something memorable.

What You'll Be Doing
Preparing & cooking ingredients with pride to a consistently high standard
Supporting the delivery of premium dining & event menus, including entrée, dessert, pastry & canapé preparation
Running sections with minimal supervision & assisting with the pass when required
Producing efficient, high-quality mise en place & setting up kitchen stations for smooth service
Working closely with the kitchen brigade, Front of House & Events teams to deliver standout guest experiences
Maintaining excellent food safety, hygiene, labelling, allergen awareness & stock rotation practices
Helping minimise waste, keep the kitchen clean and safe, and uphold all WHS & operational standards
Bringing flexibility, energy and a team-first mindset to a dynamic seven-day operation
About You The successful candidate will be a passionate, reliable and detail-focused chef who is hungry to learn, proud of their craft,
and excited by the idea of cooking in one of Melbourne’s most iconic venues. They'll thrive in a busy kitchen, communicate clearly and bring a positive, can-do attitude to every service.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
At least 1 year’s experience in a similar kitchen role A formal culinary qualification, such as Commercial Cookery (or similar)
Safe Food Handling Certificate (or willingness to obtain one)
Confidence preparing ingredients & running sections independently
Intermediate cooking skills, strong presentation standards & genuine pride in producing quality food
Excellent communication, attention to detail & a collaborative approach A safety-focused mindset & commitment to hygiene, consistency & continuous improvement
