We are seeking an experienced Data Analyst to support a major card migration programme for a leading bank headquartered in Papua Recent Guinea. This is a 12-month engagement based in Sydney/Auckland however, you would need to be based in PNG for several months at a time as well. The role sits within a large, complex transformation initiative focused on delivering client-facing change across strategy, process, data, and technology.
You will translate business needs into clear requirements and actionable solutions, working across a portfolio conversion project that spans multiple markets. Success will be measured by your ability to generate meaningful insights from multi-source data systems, define and shape solutions collaboratively, and ensure customer expectations are effectively managed in this regulated environment. This is an ideal opportunity for a self-starter who thrives in developing markets and enjoys taking initiative across complex, cross-functional programmes.
Key Activities
Data Querying & Transformation: Develop SQL-based solutions (MS SQL, Snowflake, PL/SQL) to wrangle and analyse large transactional datasets (millions of rows), creating clean, structured data for analysis and reporting.
Analytics & Reporting: Generate strategic reports and dashboards using PowerBI, Tableau, or similar tools to support business decision-making and programme governance across the migration initiative.
Customer Segmentation & CRM: Support customer segmentation projects and CRM-related reporting to inform product strategy and client communications.
Stakeholder Engagement: Partner closely with business stakeholders, product owners, delivery teams, and leadership to define problems, communicate insights clearly, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
Programme Support: Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and delivery partners to ensure programme objectives are met, manage client expectations, and support execution in a regulated banking environment.
Advanced Analysis: Apply intermediate to advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, data modelling) and exploratory data analysis to uncover patterns and drive business value across the transformation portfolio. Your Background
Essential
7+ years of experience as a Data Analyst, Business Analyst, or in a similar analytical role, with a demonstrated track record of delivering successful projects in fast-paced environments.
Proficient in data wrangling and transformation using SQL (MS SQL, Snowflake SQL, PL/SQL, or equivalent), with hands-on experience working with large, complex transactional datasets.
Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, data manipulation, and analysis.
Strong analytical problem-solving abilities with a positive, "can do" attitude and ability to work independently with limited oversight.
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into clear business insights for diverse audiences.
Experience in banking and/or card payments industry is highly desirable;
experience in developing markets is a significant advantage. Desirable:
Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree in Business Analytics or equivalent is preferred.
Experience with CRM platforms and customer segmentation projects.
Proficiency in Python, PySpark, Snowflake CLI, or dashboarding tools such as PowerBI and Tableau.
Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools such as JIRA and Confluence, or willingness to learn quickly.
