# Disability Support Worker – Community Access & Social Skills (Casual)

Location: Portland, Victoria

## About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate, energetic and reliable Disability Support Worker to support a young teenager in Portland, Victoria.

This role focuses on helping the participant build confidence, develop social skills, increase independence, and safely access the local community. You will work closely with the participant to encourage meaningful participation in activities while building positive relationships and supporting their personal goals.

This is a casual position with the opportunity for ongoing hours for the right candidate.

## Key Responsibilities

- Provide one-on-one community access support.
- Support the participant to develop social and communication skills.
- Encourage participation in age-appropriate recreational and community activities.
- Assist the participant to build confidence, independence and decision-making skills.
- Transport the participant safely to and from community activities where required.
- Support positive behaviour using a calm, respectful and person-centred approach.
- Complete accurate shift notes and required documentation.
- Communicate effectively with the participant's family and the Care Coordinator where appropriate.
- Follow all NDIS Practice Standards, organisational policies and safeguarding requirements.

## About You The successful applicant will:





- Have previous experience supporting children or young people with disability, autism or psychosocial disability (highly regarded).
- Be patient, engaging, reliable and able to build positive rapport with young people.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Be confident supporting participants in community settings.
- Be flexible, proactive and able to work independently.

## Essential Requirements

- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check.
- Current Working with Children Check (Employee).
- Current National Police Check.
- Current First Aid (HLTAID011 or equivalent).
- Current CPR Certificate.
- Current Victorian Driver Licence.
- Reliable and fully insured vehicle.
- Smartphone for rostering and documentation.
- Full Australian working rights.

## Desirable

- Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability, Community Services or a related qualification.
- Experience implementing behaviour support strategies.
- Knowledge of person-centred active support and positive behaviour support principles.
