Brief Description The Graduate Draftsperson supports the engineering team in the development of mechanical design documentation for industrial, recycling, materials handling and processing facilities. The role provides an prospect for a recent graduate or early career professional to develop practical engineering design and drafting skills while working alongside experienced engineers and project teams. The position is responsible for producing accurate drawings and models, maintaining engineering records, and assisting with the preparation of design documentation throughout project delivery.
Key Responsibilities Drafting & Design Support Prepare and update 2D and 3D mechanical drawings and models.
Produce General Arrangement (GA), fabrication, assembly and installation drawings.
Assist engineers with design development and drawing revisions.
Incorporate design changes and maintain drawing revision control.
Undertake basic design calculations and technical checks under supervision.
Project Documentation
Maintain project drawing registers and document control systems.
Assist with preparation of technical reports, specifications and design packages.
Support the development of equipment schedules, bill of materials and procurement documentation.
Ensure project documentation is accurate, complete and issued in accordance with company procedures.
Engineering Support
Assist with site measurements, inspections and data collection when required.
Liaise with engineers, suppliers and project personnel to obtain technical information.
Support equipment selection and drawing coordination activities.
Participate in design reviews and project meetings. Quality, Safety & Compliance Follow company quality management procedures.
Ensure drawings and documentation comply with relevant Australian Standards and project requirements.
Maintain a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements Proficiency in AutoCAD.
Experience with Inventor, SolidWorks, Plant 3D or similar 3D modelling software. Basic understanding of mechanical engineering principles and technical drawing standards.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Good communication and organisational skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Understanding of Australian Standards and engineering documentation practices.
