Position Description — Executive Officer
- Organisation: Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (Australia) Limited (ACN 118 131 016) ("Ciarb Australia")
- Position title: Executive Officer
- Reports to: President (and the Board)
- Engagement type: Independent contractor or employee (to be agreed). Starting 1 September 2026
- Time commitment: Approximately 3 days per week (flexible; workload varies across the year with the Branch's event and governance calendar)
- Location: Work‑from‑home, Australia (Remote)
- Remuneration: $65,000 Permanent Part-time plus superannuation
Purpose of the Role The Executive Officer provides high-quality operational, administrative and business development support to ensure the effective management and growth of the branch. Working closely with the President and Board, the Executive Officer is responsible for coordinating governance, financial administration, events, education, communications and membership activities. The role serves as the branch’s central point of coordination, ensuring compliance obligations are met, Board processes run smoothly, and members receive a high standard of service and engagement.
Key responsibilities include preparing Board and AGM documentation, supporting financial reporting, coordinating professional development programs and events, managing member communications and website content,
and responding to stakeholder enquiries.
The Executive
Officer also supports membership growth, retention and outreach initiatives, helping to strengthen the branch’s profile, enhance member value and contribute to the achievement of the branch’s strategic and operational objectives.
Selection criteria
Essential
- Demonstrated administrative and operational experience, ideally within a legal, professional‑services or membership/not‑for‑profit setting.
- A self‑starter able to work independently and remotely, manage competing priorities, and deliver to deadlines with minimal supervision.
- High‑level computer literacy, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and video‑conferencing platforms (e.g. Zoom/Teams).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.
Desirable
- Experience in the legal/arbitration sector.
- Business‑development or marketing experience, including membership growth and event promotion.
- Experience supporting boards or committees (agendas, papers, minutes) and liaising on financial reporting.
- Familiarity with website content management and mailing/CRM tools.
