About the Role
Creating Links is seeking a dedicated Carer Support Worker to join our Permanency Support Program (PSP). The Carer Support Worker plays a crucial role in developing, supporting and supervising foster carers throughout their authorisation and ongoing care journey. You will work closely with case managers to ensure carers can meet the diverse needs of children and young people and feel supported in their role.
You will
- Provide regular supervision, home visits, coaching and support to carers.
- Deliver pre‑authorisation and ongoing training programs.
- Conduct carer reviews and prepare high‑quality assessment reports.
- Support carers during placement transitions,
challenges and complex situations.
- Provide crisis support and participate in the after‑hours roster.
- Ensure compliance with child protection, safeguarding and reportable conduct obligations.
- Build strong relationships with carers, families, Department of Communities and Justice, NGOs and community stakeholders.
- Contribute to quality assurance, audits and continuous improvement.
- Support recruitment activities by participating in information sessions, community outreach and providing information to the Carer Recruitment & Community Engagement Officer.
About You
You will be a confident practitioner with robust communication skills and a commitment to trauma‑informed, culturally safe practice.
Essential Criteria
- Degree in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology or related field OR Diploma with 3 years relevant experience
- Experience in child protection or Out of Home Care (OOHC)
- Experience conducting carer assessments, home visits and compliance checks
- Ability to deliver training and support groups, including for carers with English as a second language
- Strong knowledge of PSP, child protection legislation and Child Safe standards
- Understanding of trauma‑informed care, child development and attachment theory
- Experience working with Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and CALD communities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage conflict, have difficult conversations and resolve issues
- Strong administrative and reporting skills
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings/weekends
- WWCC, Police Check, NSW Driver Licence and comprehensively insured vehicle
Desirable
- Fluency in a community language
- Post‑graduate qualifications in child protection, trauma or family support
