Role Description The Graduate Accountant will work full time in a hybrid arrangement based in Truganina, VIC, with flexibility to work from home for part of the week. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with bookkeeping, preparing financial statements, and supporting tax compliance tasks such as income tax returns, BAS, and GST reporting for individuals and small to medium businesses. The role involves working closely with senior accountants on client engagements, performing reconciliations, maintaining accurate records, and helping to prepare documentation for ATO communications.
The Graduate
Accountant will also support business advisory work by gathering and analyzing financial data, preparing reports, and contributing to budgeting and forecasting activities. This position offers mentoring, structured learning, and exposure to a wide variety of clients and industries.
Qualifications
Relevant tertiary qualification (or near completion) in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline; eligibility or intention to pursue CPA or CA accreditation.
Foundational technical skills in general accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and preparation of basic financial statements.
Understanding of Australian taxation principles, including GST, PAYG, and income tax compliance for individuals and small businesses.
Proficiency with accounting and bookkeeping software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks) and robust Microsoft Excel and Office skills.
Strong analytical and numerical abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial calculations.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information in a client-friendly manner.
Well-developed organizational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a busy practice environment.
Collaborative mindset, willingness to learn, and openness to feedback, with a client-focused and ethical approach to skilled work.
Prior internship or work experience in public practice or a similar accounting environment is beneficial but not essential.
