Description

As a Group Life Claims Leader, you'll lead a team responsible for delivering a tailored, holistic claims management approach that supports members through some of life's most challenging moments.
You'll play a key role in leading end-to-end claims operations, providing technical oversight, coaching and development, and ensuring claims practices align with organisational, regulatory and policy requirements. Working closely with stakeholders across the business, you'll champion member outcomes, drive service excellence, and foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
You'll be a trusted leader who empowers your team to succeed, navigates change with confidence, and balances operational performance with empathy and care. Your ability to build capability, influence stakeholders, and make sound technical decisions will help deliver outstanding outcomes for members and the business.
This role is a permanent opportunity and is based in Brisbane, Melbourne or Sydney.
Responsibilities
Day to day, you'll:
- Lead, coach and mentor an end-to-end claims team to deliver exceptional member outcomes.
- Provide technical claims leadership, including complex assessments, reviews and decision making.
- Drive an holistic claims management approach focused on member recovery, wellbeing and return-to-work outcomes.
- Identify capability gaps and partner with quality and operational teams to uplift technical expertise.
- Foster a culture of innovation, engagement, quality and continuous improvement.
- Monitor performance, trends and operational insights to inform decision making and business improvements.
- Collaborate across teams to achieve strategic objectives and deliver key business initiatives.
- Support organisational change and help embed best-practice claims management frameworks.
- Ensure risks are identified, managed and escalated appropriately.
- Build strong relationships with members, healthcare providers, employers and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications It goes without saying you'll be a great communicator with top notch interpersonal skills. We'll also expect you to pick up problems and come up with quick, creative ways to solve them. It's quite likely you tick some of the following boxes too:
- You have extensive experience managing complex life insurance claims and applying a structured claims management framework.
- Your knowledge of group insurance products and relevant legislative requirements is highly developed.
- You'll confidently interpret policy wording, contractual obligations and regulatory requirements.
- You're an experienced people leader with a track record of building high-performing, engaged teams.
- You have demonstrated success coaching and developing claims professionals to achieve strong outcomes.
- Your ability to analyse reporting, financial information and operational trends supports effective decision making.
- You'll bring experience driving service, quality and efficiency improvements within claims operations.
- You're skilled at managing ambiguity,
resolving complex issues and balancing multiple stakeholder needs.
- You possess tertiary qualifications in Business or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
