Position Classification: Health Education Officer Graduate

Remuneration: $38.98 - $62.28 per hour

Hours Per Week: 19

Location: Parramatta, Blacktown and Mount Druitt Community Health Centres

Where you'll be working

Join the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) Needle and Syringe Program (NSP), delivering accessible, person-centred health services across Parramatta Community Health Centre, Blacktown Community Health Centre and Mount Druitt Community Health Centre.

- Working across a diverse geographical area, you’ll be part of a dedicated team focused on improving health outcomes, reducing harm and connecting people with the services and support they need.

- Deliver community-based services across multiple NSP locations

- Work alongside health, community and welfare services across Western Sydney

- Build trusted relationships with people who may experience complex barriers to care

- Contribute to a supportive team committed to health equity and harm minimisation

- Access opportunities for professional development and workforce capability building

What you'll be doing

As a Health Education Officer, you’ll provide practical health education, harm reduction and support to people who inject drugs, helping reduce the risks associated with injecting drug use and blood-borne viruses.

- Provide injecting equipment, safe sex equipment and disposal services

- Deliver education and information on safer injecting and safe sex practices

- Conduct brief assessments, provide support and facilitate appropriate referrals

- Promote the NSP through community engagement, liaison and partnership development





- Participate in workforce development and career development activities

1. Relevant tertiary qualifications in Health or related field.

2. An understanding of Harm Minimisation

3. Knowledge of blood borne viruses such as HIV, HCV and HBV

4. Non-judgemental and empathic approach to people who inject drugs
5. An understanding of Health Promotion and Community development
6. An ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team

7. Experience working with marginalised groups within a Needle and Syringe Program (NSP) or other relevant service.

8. Current NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel to different WSLHD sites or external facilities as required.
