Role Overview The Landscape Construction Estimator plays a key role in preparing accurate, competitive, and profitable tenders for commercial landscape construction projects throughout Australia.
This position involves reviewing tender documentation, completing detailed quantity take-offs, obtaining supplier and subcontractor pricing, identifying project risks and opportunities, and preparing comprehensive tender submissions.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Australian estimating and project delivery teams, supporting projects ranging from AUD $10,000 to over $3 million.
Key Responsibilities
Tendering & Estimating
- Review tender drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and contract documentation.
- Enter new tenders and opportunities into Pipedrive CRM.
- Complete accurate quantity take-offs for landscape and civil construction projects.
- Measure and quantify: (Soft landscaping, Hard landscaping, Earthworks, Concrete, Pavements, Drainage, Irrigation, Retaining walls, Fencing, Planting, Civil landscape works)
- Prepare detailed Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
- Develop comprehensive cost estimates using labour, plant, subcontractor, and material costs.
- Prepare competitive tender submissions and pricing schedules.
- Request, compare, and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Analyse project costs and identify opportunities for cost optimisation.
- Prepare tender clarifications, qualifications
Commercial & Technical Support
- Identify construction risks and commercial opportunities.
- Recommend value engineering solutions where appropriate.
- Assist in developing construction methodologies for tender submissions.
- Prepare tender programs when required.
- Liaise daily with Australian estimators, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Maintain estimating databases and historical pricing information.
- Assist with post-tender negotiations.
- Prepare project handover documentation for project managers following successful tenders.
Requirements
Required Skills &
Experience
- Minimum 3-4 years' experience estimating Australian commercial landscape construction projects.
- Strong experience pricing: (Parks, Playgrounds, Streetscapes, Civil landscape works, Public infrastructure, Schools, Commercial developments).
- Previous construction estimating experience is essential.
- Solid understanding of Australian construction methods and tendering practices.
- Knowledge of Australian Standards and Local Government tender requirements.
- Ability to interpret: (Civil drawings, Landscape drawings, structural drawings,Hydraulic drawings,specifications)
- Experience preparing: (RFIs, Tender clarifications, Value engineering proposals, Variations)
- Strong quantity take-off and BOQ preparation skills.
- Excellent mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with remote teams.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
