Operations & Fleet Coordinator

McDermott's Coach Group – Legana, Tasmania

Help keep one of Tasmania's leading transport businesses moving.

At McDermott's Coach Group, no two days are the same—and that's exactly how we like it.

For more than 40 years, McDermott's Coach Group has been proudly delivering school services, tourism experiences, charter operations and workforce transport across Tasmania. Behind every successful service is a team of passionate people working together to make it happen.

We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Operations & Fleet Coordinator to join our team at our Legana depot.

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with people, isn't afraid to get their hands dirty, can think on their feet, and wants to build a long-term career in Tasmania's transport and tourism industry.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys variety, loves working with people and takes pride in solving problems. It's an opportunity to learn every aspect of our operation and develop into a key member of our team.

If you're someone who likes being out in the depot just as much as being in the office, enjoys helping people and wants to continue learning, we'd love to hear from you.

What Success Looks Like The person who succeeds in this role will become a trusted and valued member of our team—someone our drivers rely on, our customers enjoy dealing with and our leadership team can depend on.

You'll be known as someone who gets things done, communicates well, solves problems calmly and is always willing to lend a hand. Over time, you'll develop a thorough understanding of every aspect of our operation and play an important role in helping McDermott's continue to deliver safe, reliable and exceptional transport services across Tasmania.

This isn't just a job—it's an prospect to build a rewarding career with a business that values commitment, initiative and people who genuinely care.

About the Role

Working alongside our experienced operations team, you'll help coordinate the daily running of our Legana operation, supporting our drivers, maintaining our fleet and ensuring our services operate safely, efficiently and on time.

This is a varied role that combines administration, customer service and hands-on operational support. You'll spend time in the office coordinating the day, out in the depot working with our team, and occasionally behind the wheel or assisting with fleet maintenance and driving when required.

This position requires flexibility. While the majority of work is completed during normal business hours, transport is a seven-day operation and you'll be part of an after-hours on-call roster to assist with urgent operational matters when required.

Your day could include:

- Coordinating drivers, vehicles and daily services to ensure everything runs smoothly.

- Communicating with drivers, customers, mechanics and suppliers.

- Assisting with driver scheduling and operational planning.

- Coordinating vehicle servicing, maintenance and fleet records.

- Completing operational administration, reporting and compliance documentation.

- Supporting our tourism, school, charter and workforce transport operations.

- Assisting with driving duties when required.

- Helping with basic vehicle and depot maintenance.

- Responding to operational issues and finding practical solutions.

- Working closely with the leadership team to continually improve our operation.

About You

We're looking for someone with the right attitude above everything else.

You'll be someone who

- Enjoys working with people and building strong relationships.

- Has outstanding communication and customer service skills.

- Is organised and able to juggle multiple priorities.

- Likes solving problems and thinking on your feet.

- Is flexible and understands that transport doesn't always operate between 9.00 am and 5.00 pm.

- Is willing to answer the phone and assist with operational matters outside normal business hours when required.

- Takes pride in getting the job done properly.

- Enjoys working in both an office and hands-on depot environment.

- Can work independently while also being a valuable member of a close-knit team.

- Is eager to learn, grow and develop within the business.

Ideally you'll also have:

- A good understanding of buses, coaches or heavy vehicles.

- Mechanical knowledge or an interest in vehicle maintenance.

- A Heavy Vehicle licence, or the willingness to obtain one.

- A current Tasmanian Public Passenger Vehicle Driver Accreditation, or the ability to obtain one.

- A current Working with Vulnerable People Registration, or the ability to obtain one.

- Experience within the transport, tourism, logistics or a related industry.

- A good understanding of the tourism industry.

- Good computer skills and confidence using Microsoft Office.

Don't meet every requirement?

We know the right person doesn't always tick every box.

If you're enthusiastic, enjoy working with people, have a practical mindset and a willingness to learn, we'd encourage you to apply. We're committed to investing in our people and will support the right candidate to develop their skills, obtain any required licences or accreditations, and build a rewarding long-term career with McDermott's Coach Group.

For us, attitude, reliability and a genuine desire to learn are just as important as experience.

Why Join McDermott's?

McDermott's Coach Group is a proud Tasmanian family business with a reputation built over more than 40 years.

Our people are the reason for our success, and we're committed to creating an environment where they can learn, grow and enjoy coming to work each day.

We offer

- A diverse and rewarding role where every day is different.

- A supportive and experienced team.

- Ongoing training and career development.

- Opportunities to grow within the business.

- A strong family-oriented culture.

- Competitive salary based on experience.
