About the team:
The Cancer Information and Support Services Division (CISS) aims to empower and support people affected by cancer, so that no-one faces cancer alone. This Divisionassistspeople as they navigate the cancer journey, easing their emotional and practical burdens and helping them make informed decisions.
The Practical Support Services team provides support to people affected by cancer, ensuring practical needs are met throughout their cancer trajectory. The services offered include pro bono legal and workplace advice, support with accommodation and transport to and from treatment, as well asvarious typesof financial support. These servicesaimtomeet the legal,financialand practical needs of people affected by cancer and contribute to their well-being by reducing stress and improving their quality of life.
About the role:
Working alongside the Practical Support Services team, the key purpose of the Pro Bono Coordinator is tooversee and contribute to the delivery of pro bono legal, financial planning and workplace skilled services for people affected by cancer.This support is delivered by partnering with external pro bono partners across the country toprovidefree advice to patients and carers when they cannot afford to access this.
This is a full-time,
12-month fixed-term contract based at our Woolloomooloo office, offered under a hybrid working model.
Key responsibilities of the role:
- Oversee case management of clients referred toCancer Council’s Legal, Financial Planning and Workplace Referral Services, including:
- Contact cancer patients and carers over the phone toassess anddeterminetheir eligibility for pro bono advice.
- Identifyclients’ legal, financial and workplace issues and determineappropriatesupportandsolutions.
- Connect clients with pro bono service providersin order toreceive free advice and support.
- Oversee daily service workflow amongst staff, volunteers and secondees, ensuringappropriate contacttimeframesfor clients, and collaborate closely withinternalFinancial Navigators and Financial Counsellors.
- Leada volunteerworkforce tosupport the delivery of theseservices, includingrecruiting,trainingandsupervising legalvolunteersand lawyers on secondment from partner law firms.
- Act as the escalation point for complex client issues, ensuring prompt resolution whilemaintaininga high levelof client satisfaction.
- Act as primary relationship manager of a panel of pro bono partners, including over 600 lawyers, financialplannersand HR/recruitment professionals across the country,maintainingstrong relationships to ensure engagement in the service, the provision of high-quality support to clients and recognition of pro bono partners.
- Strategically and proactively recruit and onboard new pro bono service providers to ensure adequate professional support is available across the country and ensuring client needs,
internal and external changes and trends are responded to.
- Establish andmaintainrelationships with referrers to increase education and awareness of the services available to ensure high quality andappropriate referrals, including providing feedback and educational presentations.
About you,
- A tertiary qualification in law or relevant field.
- One to two years' experience coordinating pro bono or support services or other legal-related experience.
- High levelwritten and oral communication skills.
- Skills and experience in communicating with vulnerable clients.
- Capacity to take initiative, problem solve and manage competing priorities.
- Demonstrated relationship management skills and ability to work effectively with a range of stakeholders (both internally and externally).
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
- Basic knowledge of or interest in oncology, cancer services and the needs of persons affected by cancer
