headspace Southport is seeking a Carer Peer Support Worker to join our growing Peer Support Team. In this unique role, you'll use your lived experience to provide hope, understanding, and practical support to families, caregivers, and significant others of young people accessing headspace services.

This is an opportunity to turn your experience into meaningful impact while working alongside a supportive multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving the wellbeing of young people and their families.

About headspace Southport headspace provides early intervention mental health services for young people aged 12 to 25 years. Our multidisciplinary team includes clinicians, medical practitioners, and peer workers who work collaboratively to deliver person-centred, family-inclusive care.

As a Carer Peer Support Worker, you'll play a vital role in ensuring families and caregivers feel supported, connected, and empowered throughout their journey.

About the Role

Based at our Southport centre, you will provide peer support through a combination of:

One-on-one peer support sessions

Group programs and peer-led activities

Education and information sharing

Advocacy and system navigation support

Building connections between caregivers and community supports





Drawing on your own lived experience, you'll help families feel understood, reduce isolation, and promote hope and recovery.

Part Time: Up to 30 hours per week (4 days)

Salary: $40.49 - $43.42 per hour + Super + Salary Packaging

About You

You are someone who can reflect positively on your lived experience and use it safely and appropriately to support others. You understand the challenges families face when supporting a young person experiencing mental health concerns and are passionate about using your experience to help others.

You will bring

Personal lived experience as the primary caregiver of a young person who has experienced mental ill-health, trauma, service use, or recovery

Ability to facilitate safe, supportive, and inclusive peer groups

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Confidence sharing your lived experience within professional boundaries

Strong self-awareness and established self-care practices

Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team

Sound computer skills including Microsoft Office and client management systems

Understanding of the impact mental health challenges can have on families and caregivers

What You'll Need

Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or equivalent lived experience qualification)

Current Australian Driver Licence

Current Working with Children Check (Blue Card)





Under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), this position has a genuine occupational requirement for the successful applicant to have lived experience as a caregiver supporting a young person through mental ill-health, substance use challenges, service engagement, and recovery.
