We are seeking a motivated and solutions-focused Civil Project Engineer to join our team at Cole Civil and play a key role in the successful delivery of civil infrastructure projects across roads, drainage, earthworks and associated civil works.

Reporting to the General Manager, this role offers the opportunity to manage projects from planning through to completion while working closely with site supervisors, subcontractors, clients and stakeholders. You will be instrumental in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time and within budget while upholding our commitment to Delivery, Sustainability and Integrity.

About the Role

As a Civil Project Engineer at Cole Civil, you will provide technical leadership and project management expertise across multiple civil construction projects. You will be responsible for planning and coordinating resources, managing programme and cost performance, overseeing quality assurance requirements and ensuring projects meet client expectations.

This is a hands-on role that combines field presence with project administration, giving you the opportunity to work closely with operational teams while maintaining control of project performance.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Engineering

- Review drawings, specifications and project scopes to identify risks, opportunities and construction requirements.

- Develop project programmes, sequencing plans and resource requirements.

- Coordinate permits, approvals, traffic management requirements and service authority interfaces.

- Prepare project management documentation, inspection and test plans and quality records.

Project Delivery

- Work closely with Supervisors and site teams to deliver projects safely and efficiently.

- Monitor project progress against programme and production targets.

- Provide technical support and practical solutions to construction challenges.

- Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers and project stakeholders.

Cost & Contract Management

- Manage project budgets, forecasting and cost control.

- Administer RFIs, variations, claims and project documentation.





- Track project performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity and margins.

- Prepare and submit monthly progress claims.

Quality, Safety & Compliance

- Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality requirements and hold points.

- Oversee inspections, testing and completion of quality records.

- Promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe systems of work are implemented.

- Support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.

Stakeholder Engagement

- Develop positive relationships with clients, superintendents, subcontractors and regulatory authorities.

- Provide professional communication regarding project milestones, risks and outcomes.

- Assist in resolving issues quickly while maintaining robust working relationships.

Project Close-Out & Continuous Improvement

- Manage practical completion, defect rectification and project handovers.

- Prepare as-built documentation and final project records.

- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned reviews.

About You To be successful in this role, you will bring:

Qualifications

- Bachelor of Civil Engineering or equivalent qualification.

- Construction Industry White Card.

- Current Australian Driver Licence.

- Current registration with Engineers Australia and inclusion on the National Engineering Register (NER), or the ability to obtain registration promptly upon commencement.

Experience

- Demonstrated experience as a Project Engineer, Civil Engineer or similar role within the civil construction industry.

- Proven experience delivering civil infrastructure projects including roads, drainage, earthworks and associated civil works.

- Experience working on projects for local government, developers, utilities or private sector clients.

- Robust understanding of project planning, scheduling, contract administration and cost management.

- Experience managing subcontractors and coordinating multiple stakeholders.

- Experience using a GNSS GPS Rover for civil set out (desirable)

Skills

- Strong project management and organisational skills.

- Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and construction documentation.

- Knowledge of quality assurance processes, ITPs and compliance requirements.





- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and project management software.

- Strong problem-solving ability and commercial awareness.
