About the Role
As a Research Services Consultant, you will play a key role in developing, reviewing, negotiating and managing research and commercial contracts that support Curtin’s diverse research activities. Working closely with the Team Lead, and other members of the Contracts and Commercial team, you will provide practical contractual and commercial support across a varied portfolio of research projects, commercial agreements and strategic partnerships.
You will work with researchers, qualified staff and external partners to help resolve contracting matters, manage risk and support effective research outcomes. You will also contribute to a collaborative, values-led team culture and the continuous improvement of contracting resources and practices.
Your responsibilities will include
- Provide practical advice and guidance on a broad range of contract and commercial matters, supporting sound risk management and informed decision-making.
- Draft, review and negotiate research, consultancy, service and other commercial contracts with professionalism, accuracy and care.
- Participate in external contract and commercial discussions with partners, funders and strategic collaborators.
- Contribute to a positive team culture by being visible, engaged and aligned with Curtin’s values and signature behaviours.
- Contribute to the development of training resources and knowledge-sharing materials that support stakeholders in contract and commercial matters.
- Build effective working relationships and collaborate with key internal University service providers.
Who we are looking for (Selection Criteria):
We are looking for a confident and collaborative professional with strong contract, commercial and stakeholder engagement experience. You will bring sound judgement, clear communication and a practical, solutions-focused approach to supporting complex research and commercial activities.
- Experience in drafting, reviewing or negotiating legal, commercial,
research or other relevant contracts and agreements.
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise competing tasks, meet deadlines and manage a varied workload with accuracy and care.
- Excellent judgement in interpreting and applying policies, procedures and contractual requirements, with the ability to provide clear and consultative advice.
- Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and influencing skills, with confidence managing sensitive matters and achieving positive outcomes.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex information and recommend practical, solution-focused options.
- Knowledge of research administration or experience within a tertiary, academic or research environment will be highly regarded.
