About the role
Capital Strategic Bookkeeping is seeking a Senior Bookkeeper to join our finance team on a part-time or casual basis in Canberra, ACT 2600. In this role, you will play a crucial part in maintaining the financial integrity of our organisation by managing day-to-day bookkeeping operations and providing essential financial support to our valued clients. This position offers the flexibility of part time or casual work whilst contributing significantly to the accuracy and efficiency of our financial records and reporting processes.
What you'll be doing
- Recording and reconciling financial transactions, including accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Managing bank reconciliations and ensuring all transactions are accurately posted to the general ledger
- Preparing monthly financial statements and balance sheets for review by management
- Processing invoices, receipts and payments in a timely and accurate manner
- Maintaining and updating the chart of accounts and financial records
- Assisting with the preparation of financial documentation for audits and tax compliance
- Identifying and resolving discrepancies in financial records and recommending process improvements
- Ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal financial procedures
What we're looking for
- A minimum of 5 years' experience in a bookkeeping or accounting role, with demonstrated expertise in managing full bookkeeping functions
- Proficiency with accounting software systems, including experience with cloud-based platforms such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks or similar
- Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and GST compliance requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other financial management tools
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to maintain accuracy when processing high volumes of transactions
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively in a part-time capacity
- Demonstrated ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Professional certification such as a Diploma of Accounting or a Certificate in Bookkeeping would be highly advantageous
- Experience in a not-for-profit or community services environment is preferred but not essential
