About the Role
Reporting to the Superintendent – Resource Development, this permanent, full-time FIFO role is an significant part of our Geology team at Telfer Operations. This position is responsible for overseeing and supporting daily operations across the core yard and drilling activities, ensuring all tasks are carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. With a strong focus on safety, quality, and compliance, the Senior Field Technician will lead and mentor field and coreyard teams, coordinate logistics, assist with equipment upkeep, manage supplies, and maintain clear communication with the resource development team to keep operations running smoothly and on schedule.

As a Senior Field Technician, you will be responsible for:
Overseeing safe handling, storage, and processing of core samples in the core yard
Assist with the management of drilling operations and sampling activities
Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with all HSE regulations
Lead, mentor, and supervise Core Technicians and junior crew members
Assist with staff rostering and ensure adequate team coverage
Maintain and monitor drilling and core yard equipment; report faults promptly
Manage inventory and order supplies for drilling operations
Ensure quality standards are met in drilling and core processing activities
About You

Whether it’s managing the core yard or keeping drilling on track, you know how to lead a team, work safely, and keep things moving without cutting corners. In addition to these solid foundations, the ideal candidate will have:
Proven experience in core yard operations and drilling
Strong knowledge of drilling techniques, equipment, and safety protocols
Experience supervising or leading teams in a mining or drilling environment
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Great attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
Understanding of environmental and safety regulations A valid C- Class manual driver’s licence and the ability to operate field vehicles
It would also be outstanding if you bring:
Strong team leadership with a focus on safety, development, and retention A commitment to quality control and maintaining sample integrity
Reliability in meeting timelines and project milestones
Clear and consistent communication and reporting A focus on managing operational costs and resources effectively
Initiative and practical thinking when challenges arise
About Telfer Operations
Telfer is a long-life gold-copper mine in the Paterson Province of Western Australia’s East Pilbara region. The operation includes both open-pit and underground mining and Australia’s third-largest gold-copper processing facility. Since commencing production in 1975, Telfer has produced over 15 million ounces of gold. The site operates on a fly-in fly-out basis and offers a wide range of onsite recreational facilities to support workforce wellbeing.
