Role Description The Senior Financial Accountant is a full time, 14-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. The role is based in the Greater Brisbane Area and offers a hybrid working arrangement, with a combination of office-based and work-from-home days.
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Senior Financial Accountant will be responsible for:
Ensuring all financial reports and supporting workpapers are complete, accurate and clearly referenced.
Assisting with the preparation and completion of monthly financial statements.
Completing and reviewing monthly profit and loss and balance sheet reconciliations for allocated entities in accordance with Group procedures and reporting deadlines.
Maintaining the integrity of the general ledger and ensuring the accuracy of financial data and reporting.
Assisting with statutory audits and responding to auditor requirements as needed.
Maintaining the fixed asset register for allocated entities.
Supporting the Finance Manager with ad hoc reporting and financial analysis.
Providing technical accounting support and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
Identifying and implementing solutions to improve day-to-day financial operations and efficiency.
Assisting with international finance projects, where required.
Contributing to the preparation and implementation of relevant finance policies and procedures.
Supporting continuous improvement initiatives and maintaining strong internal controls.
Minimising audit adjustments and ensuring accounts are cleared and reconciled to the general ledger.
Meeting financial reporting deadlines and ensuring the accuracy of financial accounting information.
Responding to changing business requirements and requests from management.
Acting as a valued finance business partner by providing timely and practical support across the organisation.
Qualifications and Experience
Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
CPA, CA or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
Strong experience in financial accounting, monthly reporting and balance sheet reconciliations.
Experience preparing financial statements and supporting statutory audits.
Sound knowledge of accounting standards, internal controls and compliance requirements.
Hands-on experience with accounting software and financial reporting systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail.
Ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting deadlines.
Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills.
Experience in a corporate or project-based environment, preferably within the resources, energy or infrastructure sectors.
