The Role The APS 6 ICT Security Specialist is responsible for supporting the management, governance, and assurance of ICT security across HQ FORCOMD. The position contributes to the protection of Defence information and systems by ensuring compliance with Defence security policies, cybersecurity requirements, and information assurance frameworks.

The role requires the application of sound judgement, technical expertise, and stakeholder engagement skills to identify, assess, and manage ICT security risks within a complex operating setting. The ICT Security Specialist works closely with military personnel, APS employees, Defence partners, and external stakeholders to maintain a secure and resilient ICT environment. As a senior APS professional, the APS 6 ICT Security Specialist will work with a degree of independence under broad direction and provide advice on ICT security matters to managers and stakeholders across the organisation.

About our Team Headquarters Forces Command (HQ FORCOMD) is responsible for generating and sustaining Army's prepared land capability. Through training, readiness management, force preparation, and capability integration activities, FORCOMD enables Army personnel, units, and formations to deliver operational effects in support of Defence objectives.

The G76 Branch provides is small but professional integrated team comprising uniformed personnel and APS employees responsible for the specialist Information and Communication Technology (ICT), cybersecurity, information management, and communications support to Headquarters Forces Command and its subordinate formations. The branch plays a critical role in ensuring the security, integrity, and availability of Army's information systems and networks.





Our Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will be a highly capable ICT professional who combines strong technical expertise with excellent stakeholder engagement and problem-solving skills. They will demonstrate the ability to work independently under broad direction while maintaining a strong focus on delivering secure, practical, and business-aligned outcomes within a complex Defence environment.

The successful applicant will possess, or demonstrate the ability to acquire, a sound understanding of ICT security principles, risk management practices, and Defence security requirements, with the ability to apply these effectively to protect information, systems, and networks. They will be confident in identifying and assessing security risks, developing mitigation strategies, and providing clear, practical advice to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

The role requires an individual who is highly organised, exercises sound judgement, and can effectively manage competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail. They will demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement and be proactive in addressing emerging cybersecurity challenges.

The ideal candidate will also have strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling them to build productive relationships across Headquarters Forces Command, Army, Defence Groups, and external stakeholders. They will be comfortable working in a collaborative environment and capable of influencing positive security behaviours through education, guidance, and professional engagement.

As a senior APS employee, they will be expected to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, accountability, and discretion when handling sensitive information and security matters. They will contribute positively to team performance, foster a culture of cyber security awareness, and support the ongoing development of security capability within G76 Branch.

Most importantly, the successful candidate will be committed to supporting Army's operational readiness by ensuring ICT systems remain secure, resilient, and capable of enabling Headquarters Forces Command to achieve its mission.
