Chinova Resources is a private Australian resources company owned by the Shanxi Donghui Group of Companies, with principal activities focussed in North‑West Queensland. The company has existing operations at Osborne, south of Cloncurry, as well as several development projects and extensive exploration activity on a large tenement holding in the region. Chinova has other open pit and potential underground projects expected to commence.
Key projects include the Osborne copper-gold processing facility, the world’s highest grade molybdenum and rhenium deposit; and Mount Elliott, our flagship project, which contains one of the largest copper-gold, mineralised systems discovered in Australia. We are seeking motivated and experienced Senior Metallurgist to join the Processing Team, sharing Chinova’s values and its commitment to safety and the environment.
The Senior
Metallurgist role reports to the Processing Superintendent.
The Senior
Metallurgist leading metallurgical performance, optimization, and continuous improvement across processing operations. This role ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective extraction and recovery of metals while supporting long-term strategic objectives and operational excellence. Duties within this role include, but not limited to :
- TechnicalDevelop and implement medium- to long-term metallurgical strategies
- Support Life-of-Mine (LOM) planning and optimization
- Lead process improvement projects and plant upgrades
- Evaluate new technologies, processes, and equipment
- Manage and interpret metallurgical test work for future ore types
- Contribute to feasibility studies, expansions, and debottlenecking projects
- Align metallurgical strategy with business objectives and production targets
- Drive innovation and adoption of best practices in mineral processing
- Provide technical input into mine planning and ore blending strategies Scheduling & Delivery - Provide technical leadership to metallurgical and plant teams
- Mentor and develop metallurgists and junior staff
- Lead daily and weekly performance reviews and reporting
- Identify and resolve plant bottlenecks and inefficiencies
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., recovery improvement, reagent optimization)
- Ensure metallurgical test work programs support operational needs
- Collaborate with maintenance to improve equipment reliability and uptime
- Establish and maintain metallurgical KPIs and reporting systems
- Champions the best practice for department standards
- Champions the use and development of the INX InControl and Safety and Training Management System and ensures they are utilised to full capacity
- Promote understanding and awareness of cross-cultural issues and cultural heritage obligations at site
- Demonstrates leadership through personal behaviours, interactions and promotes a culture of safety awareness and commitment
- Demonstrate safe behaviour at all times and comply with Chinova Resources Policies and Standards.
- Demonstrate effective performance in achieving agreed HSEC goals that support departmental,
site and company standards and performance objectives Essential - Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Mineral Processing, Chemical Engineering, or related field
- 6+ years in mineral processing/metallurgy
- Significant experience in flotation plant operations and optimization
- Proven leadership experience in a senior or supervisory role
- Time and project management
- Functional and operational understanding of key environmental & community deliverables
- Knowledge of service providers and supply agreements
- Ability to influence people at all levels to achieve environmental best practice outcomes
- Proven successful safety leadership
- Strong knowledge of comminution and flotation
- Well developed skills in metallurgical accounting systems
- Data analysis and process modelling capability
- Familiarity with process control systems and plant data platforms This is a permanent FIFO opportunity on an 8/6 roster. Our selection process involves interviews, skills assessment, and pre-employment medical. Candidates must have the right to live and work in Australia. Our points of origin are Townsville and Brisbane.
