EWP & Chainsaw Trainer and Assessor
Turn Your Industry Experience into a Career That Works for You
Are you an experienced EWP operator, chainsaw professional or trainer who is ready for a change?
You’ve spent years building practical skills on the job. Now you can use that experience to help others get qualified, work safely and become job-ready—without being stuck on the tools every day or travelling across Melbourne for work.
At Start Training, we offer:
- Full-time, part-time and casual employment
- Regular RDOs for eligible trainers
- Manageable class sizes
- Practical, hands‑on training
- Support from dedicated operations, administration and compliance teams
- Opportunities to work at a location closer to home
- Clear pathways to cross-skill and increase your earning opportunities
With training facilities across Sunshine West, Campbellfield, Carrum Downs, Clayton South and Ferntree Gully, we may be able to offer work closer to where you live and reduce the time you spend sitting in traffic.
Whether you’re already an experienced trainer or you’re an industry professional looking to move into training, we want to hear from you.
About Start Training
Start Training is a family‑owned Registered Training Organisation that has delivered practical training and assessment services across Victoria’s construction and warehousing industries for more than 20 years.
We understand that good trainers need more than a timetable and a classroom.
They need quality equipment, realistic class sizes, reliable administration, clear compliance support and a management team that listens.
That’s what we provide.
Many of our trainers have stayed with us for years because they value the flexibility, support, stable employment and genuine respect they receive.
About the Role
We’re looking for an experienced EWP and/or chainsaw professional to join our growing training team.
This role is ideal for:
- An experienced operator who wants to step away from full‑time physical work
- A current trainer looking for better support and work‑life balance
- A contractor looking for reliable casual or part‑time work
- A trainer who wants to work closer to home
- Someone looking to build a long‑term career in training and assessment
You’ll deliver practical, engaging training and assessment across:
- TLILIC0005 – Licence to operate a boom‑type elevating work platform (boom length 11 metres or more)
- RIIHAN301E – Operate elevating work platform
- AHCMOM213 – Operate and maintain chainsaws
These are nationally recognised units listed on the National Training Register.
You don’t need to hold every unit to apply. Candidates with robust experience and credentials across EWP, chainsaw or related high‑risk areas are encouraged to get in touch.
There may also be opportunities to cross‑skill into:
- Working at Heights
- Confined Space
- White Card
- Forklift
- Order Picker
- Other construction and high‑risk training programs

Depending on your qualifications, availability and where you live, training may be available at:
- Sunshine West

Rather than travelling across Melbourne every day, we’ll aim to align your work with the location or locations that best suit you.
Flexible Employment Options
We know everyone’s situation is different.
Depending on your experience and availability, we can offer:
- Full‑time employment
- Part‑time employment

- Afternoon and evening work
- Weekend work
- Additional hours where available

Practical, Hands‑On Work
This is not a role where you’ll sit behind a desk all day.
You’ll continue working around equipment, sharing practical knowledge and helping students build real skills.
Support When You Need It
You’ll be backed by experienced trainers, team leaders, administration staff, operational support and a dedicated compliance team.
You’ll have people around you to help with scheduling, student support, paperwork and compliance requirements.
Build Your Training Career
We support trainers to maintain industry currency, develop professionally and expand into additional training areas.
The more courses you become qualified and experienced to deliver, the more opportunities may become available.
A Workplace That Respects Experience
We know experienced operators and trainers bring valuable knowledge to the classroom.
At Start Training, you won’t be treated like a number or just another name on the roster. Your experience, feedback and contribution will be respected.
Ready for a Better Training Role?
You’ve already built the industry experience.
Now you can use it in a role that offers flexibility, stable work, professional support and the possibility of working closer to home.
Please submit your resume and a short cover letter outlining:
