About This Opportunity
/n
Alzheimer's Queensland (AQ) is seeking a compassionate and reliable Dementia Respite Assistants to join our team at our Toowoomba Multi Service Centre.
/n
This is a hands‐on casual role where you will support older people and people living with dementia in a centre‐based respite setting. You will help create meaningful days for clients by encouraging participation, building genuine connections, assisting with personal care, and supporting a calm, safe and welcoming environment.
/n
This role is well suited to someone who is patient, resilient, and experienced in supporting people with dementia, including clients who may have responsive behaviours or more complex care needs.
/n
Key Responsibilities
/n
/n
- Provide centre‐based respite support to older people and people living with dementia.
/n
- Build respectful and trusting relationships with clients and their families.
/n
- Encourage participation in meaningful activities that support wellbeing, independence and social connection.
/n
- Assist with personal care and daily living tasks as required.
/n
- Support clients with responsive behaviours or complex care needs in a calm and respectful manner.
/n
- Communicate any concerns or changes in client needs to the appropriate team members.
/n
- Work collaboratively with the respite team to maintain a safe, welcoming and engaging environment.
/n/n
About You
/n
/n
- Certificate III or IV in Aged Care, Individual Support, Community Services or a similar qualification.
/n
- Experience supporting older people or people living with dementia.
/n
- Knowledge of dementia care principles, behaviour support and person‐centred care.
/n
- Previous experience supporting clients with responsive behaviours or complex care needs is highly regarded.
/n
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
/n
- Reliable, punctual and committed to providing high‐quality care.
/n
- Ability to remain calm and respond appropriately in challenging or changing situations.
/n
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
/n
- Current Open Driver's Licence.
/n
- Flexibility to work weekdays, weekends and wide-ranging shifts.
/n
- Willingness to obtain or maintain a satisfactory National Police Check and required vaccinations.
/n/n
Availability Requirements
/n
Candidates must be flexible and available to work a variety of shifts across weekdays and weekends, including afternoon, overnights and night shifts , for a minimum of three to four shifts per week.
/n
Weekend‐only availability will NOT be suitable for this role.
/n
