About FoodByUs
FoodByUs is Australia’s leading B2B order management platform for the foodservice industry. We connect manufacturers, distributors and operators, streamlining how venues order and manage supplies across multiple categories.
Our platform brings visibility, speed and control to a process that was once manual and fragmented. By consolidating ordering, supplier communication, invoice workflows, price tracking, menu costing and reporting in one system, we help hospitality and foodservice organisations reduce administration, manage costs and make smarter commercial decisions.
We are a VC-backed scale-up with a proven platform, a strong customer base and an ambitious plan to grow our impact across complex, multi-site organisations.
About the role
We are looking for a hands-on Financial Accountant to strengthen the day-to-day finance function as FoodByUs scales. Reporting to and working closely with the Financial Controller, you will take ownership of core accounting processes and help ensure our numbers, controls and reporting are accurate, timely and decision-ready.
You will manage the monthly close, balance-sheet integrity, statutory obligations and key transactional workflows across accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and cash. You will be equally comfortable working through detail, identifying the story in the numbers and following issues through to resolution.
FoodByUs operates across software, foodservice and complex transaction flows. You will partner with teams across Operations, Data, Product, People and Customer Success to help improve finance processes, strengthen controls and build a scalable foundation for continued growth.
What you will own
- Balance-sheet integrity: Own bank and balance-sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and ensure issues are followed through to resolution.
- Management reporting: Prepare clear monthly reporting, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, variance analysis and supporting commentary for leadership.
- Accounts payable and receivable: Full ownership of receivables and collections. Responding to customer and supplier queries,
following issues through to resolution and management of both payables and receivables with solid controls and constructive stakeholder relationships.
- Payroll accounting: Support accurate payroll processing, including superannuation, payroll tax, leave and reimbursements.
- Tax and compliance: Prepare or support BAS lodgements, payroll tax and other statutory obligations, working with external advisers where required.
- Controls and systems: Help to strengthen financial controls, improve data quality and automate manual workflows so the finance function can scale efficiently.
- Business partnering and projects: Work across the business on finance questions, board and investor inputs, R&D; tax incentive support, systems improvements and other priority projects.
What success looks like
- Month-end is completed accurately and on time, with clear schedules, reliable journals and well-supported reconciliations.
- Balance-sheet accounts, aged receivables and payables are current, understood and actively managed.
- Leaders receive decision-ready reporting and timely visibility of cash, performance, risks and opportunities.
- Payroll and statutory obligations are accurate, complete and delivered by their deadlines.
- Finance controls, documentation and workflows become more scalable, automated and resilient.
- You are a trusted partner who takes ownership, communicates early and follows issues through to a clear outcome.
What you will bring
- 4+ years of accounting experience, with strong hands-on exposure to month-end close, reconciliations and financial reporting.
- A degree in accounting, finance or a related discipline, with CA or CPA qualification or near completion.
- Working knowledge of Australian accounting and statutory requirements, including GST, BAS, payroll tax and superannuation.
- Experience managing accounts payable, accounts receivable and processing payroll.
- Strong Google Sheets or Excel capability and experience using cloud accounting and payroll systems.
- An analytical mindset and the ability to move between transaction detail, financial statements and commercial insight.
- A track record of improving controls, documenting processes and reducing manual work through better systems or automation.
- Clear communication skills and the confidence to partner with people outside finance, including senior leaders.
- Accuracy, sound judgement and a practical, accountable approach suited to a scaling business where priorities continue to evolve.
- Experience in a technology, marketplace, payments, high-volume transaction or scale-up environment is highly regarded, but not essential.
How you work
You will thrive at FoodByUs if you bring our ACTED values to finance:
- Authentic: You are transparent, communicate issues early and take responsibility for the accuracy of your work.
- Collaborative: You make finance accessible, bring the right people into the conversation and share context generously.
- Tinkerer: You look for smarter ways to work, test improvements and turn recurring manual tasks into repeatable processes.
- Empathetic: You balance strong controls with an understanding of operational realities and stakeholder needs.
- Data driven: You use evidence, reconciliations and trends to explain performance and support better decisions.
Why FoodByUs?
