Quality Assurance Engineer
About 5B

5B is an Australian clean technology company on a mission to accelerate the world’s transition to renewable energy.

We’re transforming the way solar farms are built through the 5B Maverick — a prefabricated solar solution designed from first principles to deliver faster deployment, greater efficiency and lower costs. Structurally efficient, aerodynamic and installed at lightning speed, Maverick is redefining large-scale solar construction around the world.

With AUD $46 million in ARENA funding supporting a major R&D; and product development program, we’re continuing to scale our technology and our impact globally.

The Opportunity

Quality at 5B starts before the product reaches the production line.

We’re looking for a Quality Assurance Engineer to help build quality into the way we design, manufacture and deliver the 5B Maverick.

This is an prospect to move beyond simply finding defects and instead prevent them from happening in the first place. You’ll work across engineering, design, production and suppliers to strengthen our Quality Management System, identify process risks, drive continuous improvement and ensure our manufacturing processes are capable, consistent and scalable.

You’ll have a genuine opportunity to influence how we manufacture a product that is helping reshape the global renewable energy industry.

Key Responsibilities

- Build quality into our processes: Develop and maintain our QMS, SOPs, process controls and quality documentation.
- Prevent defects: Develop PCPs, FMEA/PFMEA, test plans and risk controls to identify and mitigate issues before they reach production.
- Audit and improve:

Conduct process audits and identify opportunities to improve consistency, efficiency and compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement: Apply Lean, Six Sigma and SPC methodologies to reduce waste, bottlenecks, rework and cost.
- Partner with Engineering & Design: Support DFA/DFM and ensure quality requirements are considered early in the product lifecycle.
- Strengthen supplier quality: Evaluate and audit suppliers and work collaboratively to improve incoming quality and reliability.
- Solve problems at the source: Lead root cause analysis and implement effective Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
- Use data to drive decisions: Track quality metrics including First Pass Yield, scrap, Cost of Quality, CAPA effectiveness, supplier defects and customer rejection rates to identify trends and measure improvement.

About You

You’re a hands-on quality professional and problem solver who naturally looks beyond the immediate issue to understand why it happened and how to prevent it happening again.

You’ll bring:

- 3–5 years’ experience in a Quality Assurance or similar engineering role, ideally within manufacturing, engineering or assembly.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Civil, Industrial or similar.
- Strong knowledge of QMS, process auditing, quality planning and risk management.

- Experience with FMEA/PFMEA, CAPA, RCA and continuous improvement methodologies.
- The ability to read engineering drawings and understand GD&T;.
- Familiarity with metrology equipment and NDT and/or destructive testing methods.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn quality data into meaningful actions.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across engineering, production, design and supplier teams.
- Lean or Six Sigma qualifications are highly regarded.

Most importantly, you’re proactive, curious and improvement-focused. You enjoy solving complex problems, challenging the way things are done and working with others to build better processes.

Why 5B?

This is more than a quality engineering role, it’s an opportunity to help shape the manufacturing future of renewable energy.

At 5B, you’ll work on globally impactful technology in a fast-moving environment where first principles thinking, practical innovation and speed matter.

You’ll also enjoy benefits designed to support life both inside and outside of work, including:

- Flexible working
- Birthday Leave
- The option to salary sacrifice for an additional two weeks of annual leave
- Increasing annual leave entitlements with tenure
- Gender-neutral Parental Leave
- Salary sacrifice opportunities for career development, technology and EV/PHEV transportation
- A collaborative, inclusive and mission-driven culture

If you’re passionate about quality, continuous improvement and building something that genuinely makes a difference, we’d love to hear from you. Please attach your resume/CV as a pdf.
