About the Student Planner Position and the Graduate Planner Program
Statutory Planning’s Graduate Planner Program is aimed at facilitating the professional career progression of Student Planners, offering structured on-the-job training to compliment your tertiary studies and
Our Student Planners are provided on the job mentoring with exposure and training across areas including assessing planning applications, providing planning advice and observing VCAT proceedings, with exposure to varied planning scenarios.
Our program has seen a number of Student Planners go on to gain successful careers as qualified Planners. Successful Student Planner’s may be offered the opportunity of a full-time Planner role with Council’s Statutory Planning unit upon the successful completion of their studies.
- The successful candidates will be available to commence in mid to late November and commit to an intensive training program, four days per week, from November through to March 2027.
Reporting to the Team Leader – Statutory Planning, some of the core responsibilities of this role will include:
- Responding to colleagues, ratepayers, and members of the public by telephone and face to face in an effective, efficient and timely manner.
- Prepare and process correspondence, reports and recommendations in relation to the planning process.
- Maintain the integrity of Council’s property database system and registers with accurate data entry and timely processing.
- Communicate with the community and provide advice through the course of the planning process.
- Liaise with external referral authorities and internal referral units throughout the processing of planning applications.
About You
- Studying towards a Planning degree is highly advantageous.
- Candidates with an expected graduation date in 2027 or 2028 are preferred.
- Excellent communication skills (written & verbal).
- Ability to manage time effectively.
- A drive to establish your career in Statutory Planning.
