ABOUT ORTHOFABRICATION AUSTRALIA

Orthofabrication Australia is a specialist Australian manufacturer of custom prosthetic and orthotic devices, supplying clinical providers throughout Australia and internationally. We produce high-end devices, combining advanced construction techniques, materials and technologies with extensive manufacturing expertise.

Our purpose-built workshop is located in Huskisson in the beautiful Jervis Bay area, approximately two hours south of Sydney.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking a Manufacturing Technician to join our workshop team, producing custom prosthetic and orthotic devices to individual clinical prescriptions.

Applications are welcomed from candidates across a range of experience levels. Applicants with established fabrication experience, whether in prosthetics and orthotics or in a related trade (such as composites, dental technology or precision engineering) are encouraged to apply, with the role scoped and remunerated accordingly. Applicants earlier in their career with strong practical ability and a genuine interest in custom device manufacturing will be provided with structured on-the-job training and development. The key requirements are proficiency with hand tools, close attention to detail, and sound judgement in determining when to proceed independently and when to seek guidance.

Each device produced is manufactured for an individual client to a clinical prescription and must meet exacting standards of fit and function. The successful applicant will work across the fabrication process as part of an established workshop team, with the opportunity to progress to more complex and independent work, including specialist areas such as silicone fabrication and myoelectrics, as experience develops.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manufacture, repair and finish custom prosthetic and orthotic devices in accordance with prescription specifications

• Undertake plaster work, including mould filling and shaping

• Perform thermoplastic forming,

trimming and finishing

• Carry out carbon fibre lamination, including preparation and post-processing

• Operate hand tools, power tools, routers, ovens, autoclaves and other workshop equipment

• Assist with 3D scanning, 3D printing and CNC processes where required and experience and skills allow

• Assist with the organisation and tracking of manufacturing parts, materials, orders and shipments, and support stock level management

• Liaise with clinical and technical staff on matters of manufacturing design, logistics and best practice

• Assist in research and testing directed at developing and optimising manufacturing techniques

• Maintain a clean, safe and well-organised workshop, and assist with the management of materials and consumables

• Work safely at all times, in accordance with work health and safety legislation and company procedures

The position reports to the Workshop Supervisor, with oversight from the Chief Operating Officer and Director.

SELECTION CRITERIA

• Demonstrated practical hand skills and close attention to detail

• Capacity to work accurately to specification, whether under instruction from an experienced technician or independently to a clinical prescription

• Sound judgement in determining when to proceed and when to seek clarification

• Reliability and clear communication with colleagues across the workshop

• Ability to work independently and within a small team

• Physical capacity to meet workshop demands, including extended periods of standing and the handling of tools, materials and devices

• A current Australian driver licence

• A current national criminal history check, or a willingness to obtain one

Relevant experience, qualifications or trade background in prosthetics, orthotics or a related fabrication discipline will be highly regarded and reflected in the offer, but is not a prerequisite for application. All applications will be assessed on individual merit.

REMUNERATION AND DEVELOPMENT

The salary range for this position is $65,000 to $72,000 per annum plus superannuation, determined according to relevant qualifications and hands-on experience.

This position offers genuine scope for professional development. Our senior technicians specialise in areas including silicone fabrication, myoelectrics and advanced composites, and technicians who demonstrate aptitude are supported to progress into these specialist areas over time.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

• Permanent full time appointment
