The opportunity
Wollongong City Council is looking for a customer-focused Technology Support Officer to join our Technology Support team. This role sits at the heart of Council IMT services, acting as the first point of contact for employees seeking technology assistance and ensuring they receive timely, professional and effective support.
More than just a technical role, we are looking for someone who takes pride in delivering exceptional customer service, enjoys solving problems and is genuinely passionate about technology, with a proactive approach to learning new skills, exploring emerging technologies and staying engaged with evolving industry trends. You will work across a wide range of systems, devices and locations, supporting the 1800 + employees who deliver essential services to our community every day.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with IT support experience who wants to broaden their skills, work in a collaborative environment and build a career in technology.
This is an on-site position with regular travel to other Council facilities. Core hours for this role vary between 8:00am to 5:00pm; however, on occasion and on a rotating basis, you may be required to start earlier and provide support at other Council sites, including depots and operational facilities. Applicants must be physically capable of undertaking manual tasks relating to the role as outlined in the job description.
This is a permanent full time 35 hour per week position. Salary from$91,924 up to $100,110 per annum plus superannuation. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications)
What you will be doing
- Providing first and second-level IT support for incidents, service requests and technical enquiries.
- Be the first point of contact for Council staff and delivering a positive customer experience with every interaction.
- Troubleshooting and resolving hardware, software, mobile device and user access issues.
- Installing, configuring and deploying technology equipment across Council locations.
- Coordinating support requests and working closely with specialist IT teams to resolve complex issues.
- Building strong relationships with internal customers and helping them get the most from Council technology services.
- Working independently providing on-site support across a variety of Council facilities.
- Contributing to a collaborative team environment focused on knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
About you
You are someone who enjoys helping people and gets genuine satisfaction from solving problems.
You understand that great IT support is about more than technical knowledge-it is about listening, communicating effectively and delivering excellent customer service. You are approachable, patient and able to build positive working relationships with people at all levels.
You will bring:
- Experience in an IT support, service desk, desktop support or similar technology support role.
- A genuine passion for technology, demonstrated through continual learning, staying current with industry trends or personal projects
- Strong customer service skills and a passion for helping people.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You enjoy working with people, contribute positively to a team environment and are capable of independently managing technical issues and support activities when required.
- The ability to work collaboratively within a team environment supporting colleagues and sharing responsibilities.
- Sound troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in Microsoft technologies and modern workplace environments.
- Experience working within IT service management environments and an understanding of ITIL principles and processes.
- A current Class C Drivers Licence or equivalent.
