Future Energy Planning Engineer / Senior Engineer –
Power Systems & Network Modelling
Western Sydney (Parramatta) | Full time | Electricity Distribution
Help shape how a major NSW electricity network is planned for the next 20 years
Our client, a large NSW electricity distribution network business, is in the middle of a genuine shift in how it plans its network — moving beyond traditional augmentation-led planning towards a future-focused approach built around renewables, batteries, EVs and rapidly changing customer demand. This shift is being driven by new leadership bringing international energy market experience to rethink how the business plans for the long term.
This is a rare chance to join a Strategic Planning & Forecasting team while that transformation is actually happening — not to inherit a finished framework, but to help build it.
The Role
We're looking for a Future Energy Planning Engineer or Senior Engineer to translate demand forecasts, generation forecasts and energy-transition scenarios into practical network planning decisions and investment recommendations.
This is a planning role at heart, not a pure modelling or data role. You'll need to be as comfortable interpreting what a model is telling you and why it matters, as you are running it.
You'll be involved in:
- Strategic and future network planning across Endeavour's distribution network
- Power system modelling and analysis — load flow, contingency and other network studies
- Identifying constraints and determining whether augmentation, asset replacement or an alternative solution is the right call
- Supporting planning for rising solar PV, BESS, EVs and other DER
- Assessing BESS sizing, location and charging/discharging impacts
- Developing and assessing network reinforcement and investment options
- Long-term network master planning
- Working through genuine uncertainty — where the future demand/generation picture isn't fixed
- Collaborating closely with network engineers, asset managers, forecasting and connections teams
- Communicating technical analysis clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
What You'll Bring
- Strong background in power systems engineering and network planning
- Experience with power system modelling tools — PowerFactory strongly preferred, PSS/E or PSCAD also relevant
- Exposure to some combination of: load flow studies, contingency analysis, network capacity assessment, DER/hosting capacity, BESS integration, solar PV, EV network impacts, connection studies, system strength or power quality
- The ability to go beyond running a model — understanding what's driving a constraint, weighing up options and landing on a practical recommendation
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to explain complex technical issues simply
- A genuine interest in the energy transition and where the network needs to go next
- Distribution network planning experience, master planning exposure, and prior BESS/DER integration work will make you especially competitive.
Why Join Now
This isn't a BAU planning role. The business is actively rewriting how it approaches future network investment, and you'd be joining at the point where that thinking is still being shaped — with real input into the methodologies, not just the outputs.
You'll be working on problems that don't have an established playbook yet: rapid DER penetration, growing BESS uptake, EV adoption, large new loads and data centres, and the balancing act between reliability, cost and the pace of transition.
