Position Description The Aboriginal Family Case Worker – DFV will work directly with Aboriginal children, young people, and families who are at risk of or experiencing vulnerability, with a strong focus on domestic and family violence prevention and response.
Using a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach, the Case Worker will:
Provide individual case management and outreach support to families impacted by or at risk of DFV
Facilitate parenting and healing programs to strengthen family functioning and improve child safety
Identify early signs of risk (e.g. domestic violence, homelessness, child protection) and provide appropriate referrals
Build solid working relationships with services including DFV-specific supports, early education centres, schools, housing and health providers
Promote safety, cultural connection, and resilience through group programs, workshops and one-on-one support
Work closely under the direction of the Family Services Coordinator to ensure casework, referrals, and group activities align with SRAC’s practice model, compliance requirements, and community needs
Selection Criteria (Essential)
Aboriginality.
The position is an identified Aboriginal position. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977
Qualifications in health, social work, psychology, early childhood education or extensive relevant experience in similar role
Previous experience and solid commitment to working with Indigenous people & communities, and a broad understanding of the issues experienced by Aboriginal families living in our community
Works independently and effectively manages time and resources to provide qualified, clear, accurate and prompt information to various stakeholders in a complex work environment
High level communication skills, and demonstrated problem solving, effective prioritisation and escalation skills
Demonstrated ability to coordinate the provision of quality, person-centred community engagement and outreach programs, workshops, presentations, and events
Current Working with Children Check (WWCC), and unrestricted NSW drivers’ licence
