Senior Legal Counsel Property & Commercial
Sydney CBD with hybrid working pattern
Our client is a major player in the Energy & Infrastructure market in Australia, and is playing a huge role in Australia's Energy Transition.
They are looking for a talented and commercially minded, Property lawyer to join their team.
They must be able to lead complex property transactions, manage complex internal and external stakeholder relationships, and manage multiple work streams at once
The Legal team all work as Snr Counsel, each being autonomous subject matter specialists 90% of the time, with this role responsible for managing the Property Portfolio and associated Commercial Transactions.
The other 10% of the time they may assist colleagues or the business on specific projects or overflow work as part of a collegiate team culture.
Candidates with experience working on Energy & Infrastructure projects will be welcomed, but industry sector experience is not essential
Position Description
This is a position that will see you play an significant role in a high calibre legal team with responsibility for advising across all Property matters including:
Development, Acquisitions, Disposals and complex Leasing of Property across three Property Portfolios:
Operational Business Property Portfolio - supporting the core business
Non Operational Business assets, which have been rolled into a Commercial Property arm for either development or divestment (Circa $1bn portfolio)
New Energy Asset development - greenfield and brownfield energy project development opportunities supporting new business opportunities
You will also provide strategic and commercial legal support across a range of associated commercial and procurement transactions with a principal focus on property and real estate, helping the business navigate legal risk while supporting critical infrastructure and operational outcomes.
You'll work cross-functionally with the commercial, engineering, and procurement teams and provide practical, solutions-oriented legal advice that supports strategic delivery.
You will also be responsible for managing the external legal providers, including budgetary mgnt.
Ideal Candidate
6-10+ years' post-qualification experiencegained in a leading law firm and/or in-house environment.
You must be able to distill complex legal ideas into plain english and work well with stakeholders from different areas
Strong background in property & real estate transactions
Experience managing a portfolio of complex matters and balancing competing priorities
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to advise confidently at all levels of the business.
A positive and upbeat person who enjoys their work - who will contribute positively to the culture of both the legal team and the wider business
