About the role
MMD Recruitment is partnering with a leading construction and infrastructure business to appoint a Procurement Manager – Data Centre (Water & HV) on a contract basis in Sydney CBD.
This is a genuinely dynamic contract on one of the most active asset classes in the market.
You'll own procurement across two of the most critical and technically complex packages on a data centre program: water and high voltage.
That means sourcing and contracting cooling and water infrastructure, plus HV equipment and services — transformers, switchgear, cabling, substation works and grid connection — and working alongside the commercial team on contract administration and delivery.
The role moves fast, the packages are high value, and the scope will flex as the program progresses.
It suits a procurement or category professional who is comfortable in a live delivery environment, can hit the ground running, and enjoys owning technical categories end to end while supporting the broader contract's function.
Key responsibilities:
Own procurement strategy and delivery for the water and high voltage packages across the data centre program
Source and contract HV equipment and services — transformers, switchgear, HV cabling, substation works, grid and network connection
Manage water and cooling infrastructure procurement, including potable and recycled water, wastewater, treatment plant and cooling system packages
Run competitive sourcing end to end — RFI, RFP and RFT — including market analysis, supplier due diligence, evaluation and recommendation
Negotiate commercial terms, pricing structures, SLAs and delivery programs with suppliers, subcontractors and utility providers
Assist the commercial team with contract administration, variations, claims and compliance across live packages
Liaise with network operators,



water authorities and regulators on connection agreements and approvals
Manage supplier performance, lead times and delivery risk on long-lead HV and mechanical items
Partner with engineering, project delivery, operations, finance and legal to align procurement with the construction program
Maintain accurate procurement and contract documentation — purchase orders, approvals, registers and compliance records
What we are looking for:
10+ years in procurement, category management or contracts within construction, infrastructure, energy, utilities or data centres
Experience procuring high voltage or electrical infrastructure packages, and/or water, wastewater and mechanical cooling scopes
Strong contract negotiation and administration capability in complex commercial environments
Confident running competitive tenders and managing long-lead item risk and supplier performance
Exposure to utility and network provider processes — connection applications, authority approvals and regulatory compliance
Working knowledge of ERP and procurement systems, plus robust Excel and data analysis skills
Excellent stakeholder management — able to influence technical, commercial and executive audiences
Data centre, mission-critical or major project experience highly regarded
Available to start at short notice and comfortable working autonomously in a fast-moving setting
