Project Manager – Water & Infrastructure
Newcastle / Hunter Region, NSW | Full-Time
Build your project management career in water and infrastructure
An established Australian engineering and project delivery business is seeking an ambitiousProject Manager with approximately 1–2 years' experienceto join its growing team in the Newcastle/Hunter region.
This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career Project Manager who wants to develop quickly through exposure to a diverse portfolio ofwater, infrastructure, energy and industrial projects.
Rather than being assigned to a single project, you'll work across multiple projects and different areas of the business, gaining hands‐on experience in the complete project lifecycle—from initial planning and procurement through engineering, construction, commissioning and final handover.
You'll work alongside experienced Project Managers, engineers and senior management, with increasing responsibility as your capability develops.
The Role
Working as part of the project delivery team, your responsibilities will include:
Coordinating projects from award through to completion and handover
Managing smaller projects and defined work packages, with support from senior Project Managers
Coordinating engineering, procurement, suppliers, subcontractors and site activities
Monitoring project schedules, budgets, costs and deliverables
Assisting with project forecasting and cost-to-complete reporting
Managing procurement packages and following up suppliers to maintain delivery schedules
Liaising directly with clients, contractors,
engineers and suppliers
Coordinating drawings, technical submissions, RFIs and approvals
Attending project and client meetings and driving actions through to completion
Identifying and managing project risks, delays and commercial issues
Assisting with variations, claims and project commercial administration
Supporting site mobilisation, installation, testing and commissioning
Preparing project reports and maintaining accurate project records
Working across multiple projects and supporting the broader business as required
About You
We're looking for someone who has already gained some practical project experience and is ready to take the next step.
Ideally, you'll have:
1–2 years' experience in project management, project engineering or project coordination
A qualification in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management or a related discipline
Experience within water, mechanical, electrical, civil, mining, energy, industrial or infrastructure projects
Good commercial awareness and an interest in understanding project costs and profitability
Strong organisation and communication skills
Confidence dealing with clients, suppliers,
subcontractors and internal teams
A practical approach to problem solving
Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel
A current Australian driver's licence
Willingness to travel to project sites when required
Experience with pumping systems, pipelines, mechanical equipment, electrical systems, controls or water treatment would be advantageous, but isn't essential.
What We're Looking For
Technical experience is important, but attitude will be equally important.
We want someone who isdriven, organised and accountable—someone who follows things through, asks questions and wants to understand the commercial as well as the technical side of project delivery.
You don't need to know everything yet.
You'll have experienced people around you, but you'll also be expected to take ownership, communicate confidently and progressively manage larger and more complex projects as you develop.
Why Join?
This isn't a role where you'll spend the next few years doing one small part of a major project.
You'll get exposure across the business and the chance to develop experience in:
Project Management | Engineering | Procurement | Commercial Management | Construction | Client Management | Commissioning | Project Handover
For the right person, there is a genuine opportunity to develop into anindependent Project Manager responsible for delivering increasingly significant projects.
Full-time position | Newcastle / Hunter Region | Site travel as required
