LABOURLENS PTY LTD The Tea Rooms **** (La Creperie Saint – German Pty Ltd (The Trustee for the Mount Buffalo Trust)), located in Melbourne's historic Block Arcade, is seeking a qualified and experienced Cook for a full-time (min 38 hrs/week), permanent role.
The Cook will work closely with the savoury teams to ensure consistency across all dishes and will actively participate in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized kitchen environment in compliance with HACCP regulations.

Task & responsibilities
Preparing and assisting to cook and present a variety of meals in accordance with established recipes, quality standards and customer expectations. Inspect ingredients and food products to ensure freshness, quality and suitability before use.
Operate ovens, grills, fryers, stovetops and other commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Portion, garnish and plate meals attractively while maintaining consistency in taste, presentation and serving size.
Prepare dishes that accommodate dietary requirements, including vegetarian, gluten-free and other special requests.
Assisting head chef by storing raw ingredients and preparing food under appropriate temperature-controlled conditions to maintain quality and prevent spoilage. Monitor stock levels, order kitchen supplies and apply appropriate stock-rotation procedures to minimize wastage and providing report to head chef. Assist with planning and reviewing menu offerings based on seasonal ingredients, customer preferences, preparation requirements and food costs.
Assisting in food preparation and cooking activities to ensure meals are completed accurately and within required service times. Maintain kitchen cleanliness and hygiene by ensuring equipment, utensils, benches, storage areas and preparation surfaces are regularly cleaned and sanitized. Train and support new employees and apprentices in cooking techniques, food preparation, portion control, plating and safe work practices.
Ensure food is prepared, handled and stored in compliance with food safety, workplace health and safety requirements and internal procedures. Work closely with head chef, chefs, kitchen staff and front-of-house employees to coordinate service and respond to customer requirements. Maintain consistent standards of quality, flavour and presentation to support a positive dining experience.
Qualification & experience Certificate III or IV in Commercial Cookery, Hospitality, or a related field (essential). Minimum 1 year of experience in a commercial kitchen or fast-paced restaurant/café workplace. Experience preparing breakfast, brunch, lunch, and high tea-style menu items(preferred).
Strong knowledge of Australian food hygiene, handling, and safety standards. Familiarity with dietary and allergen considerations (e.g., gluten-free, vegetarian). Ability to follow recipes with accuracy and consistency.
Sound understanding of portion control and food presentation aesthetics. Punctual, reliable, and able to work under pressure in a high-demand service setting. Strong teamwork and communication skills.
Flexible and willing to work weekends, public holidays, and rotating shifts. Eagerness to learn and adapt to evolving menu requirements. Professional appearance and adherence to kitchen etiquette.
Positive attitude with a passion for quality food and customer satisfaction. Knowledge of or interest in high tea service is an advantage. References from previous employers may be requested.
