MacDonald Law is a multi-disciplinary law practice with an established and well respected family law team. This is an opportunity to work directly with Accredited Family Law Specialist, and Doyles Guide Recommended family lawyer, Sarah-Jane MacDonald, whilst also gaining exposure to interesting and dynamic family law matters.
The Role
The role is working directly with Accredited Family Law Specialist and Director, Sarah-Jane MacDonald, assisting clients in parenting disputes, property settlements, divorce, spousal maintenance, child support, domestic and family violence matters.
You will have the autonomy to manage your own files with support directly from Sarah-Jane and other senior lawyers at MacDonald Law. The perfect balance between independence and support.
The role has ample opportunity for you to continue to develop your advocacy skills as solicitor advocate, but to also work with experienced Counsel through briefing opportunities.
The successful applicant would join a fast-paced team of family lawyers who appear in courts across South-West Queensland: from Toowoomba, Brisbane, Gold Coast and the western region. We also service clients across Australia, except in Western Australia. MacDonald Law has offices in Toowoomba, Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This role will be based in Brisbane City predominantly but will require travel to other offices and courts across Queensland from time to time.

You will also have the opportunity to become accredited as a provider of the Domestic & Family Violence Duty Lawyer Service,



if you are interested in doing so.
Requirements
The successful applicant will ideally have:-
3 - 5 years post admission experience as a family lawyer;
appeared before the Magistrates Court in domestic and family violence matters;
appeared as solicitor advocate before the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, including at compliance and readiness hearings and first return dates;
experience preparing for and running Interim Hearings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, either as solicitor advocate and/or instructing Counsel;
experience preparing for and attending mediations;
the ability to manage files with increasing autonomy;
strong communication skills, including drafting and oral advocacy.
The successful applicant must:-
hold a current Practising Certificate;
hold a current driver licence and be willing to drive for work;
hold or be willing to hold a paid Blue Card (Working with Children) check; and
hold or be willing to obtain a clear criminal history check.
Your role will include:
Management of files;
Appearances in Court (both the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia as well as the Magistrates Court);
Effective time management;
Client management;
Ability to work well with support staff and manage delegation of tasks within the team;
Provision of appropriate and considered legal advice;
Instructing counsel on complex matters in the Federal Circuit and Family Court, and the Magistrates Court
Other tasks as delegated by the Director and Accredited Family Law Specialist.
Remuneration
Salary will be paid in accordance with your level of experience.
