DCV Plant and Civil is seeking a skilled and reliable Civil Construction Carpenter to join our team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for building, installing, and repairing structures and formwork used in civil construction projects such as roads, bridges, drainage systems, and other infrastructure works. This role requires strong practical carpentry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely in an outdoor construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine project requirements
Construct, erect, and dismantle formwork and falsework for concrete structures (footings, columns, slabs, retaining walls, culverts, bridges, etc.)
Measure, cut, and shape timber, plywood, and other materials to required dimensions
Install and secure bracing, shoring, and scaffolding as needed to support structures
Ensure formwork is level, plumb, and properly aligned prior to concrete pours
Assist with the placement, vibration, and finishing of concrete where required
Strip and clean formwork after curing, and prepare materials for reuse
Work collaboratively with site engineers, laborers, and other trades to meet project timelines
Maintain tools and equipment in valuable working condition
Follow all site safety protocols, including use of PPE and adherence to WHS/OHS regulations
Identify and report any safety hazards or structural concerns to the site supervisor
Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards
Required Qualifications & Skills
Proven experience as a carpenter in civil or heavy construction projects (roads, bridges, drainage, marine works, etc.)
Trade certification/qualification in Carpentry (or equivalent apprenticeship completion)
Strong knowledge of formwork systems, concrete construction methods, and structural carpentry
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Proficiency with hand and power tools relevant to carpentry and formwork
Understanding of site safety standards and construction regulations
Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, and working at heights
Good communication and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with bridge, culvert, or retaining wall formwork
Working at Heights certification
White Card / Construction Induction Card (or regional equivalent)
Forklift, crane dogging, or rigging tickets (advantageous but not essential)
Outdoor construction site environment; exposure to varying weather conditions
Physically demanding work involving standing, lifting, and repetitive tasks
