Purpose of the Role
BGIS is seeking an experienced
Facilities Shift Engineer
to support the operation and maintenance of a major hyperscale data centre environment in Western Sydney. Reporting directly to the Facilities Site Lead, you will work collaboratively with both client and BGIS teams to ensure critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure operates safely, efficiently, and reliably within a 24/7 mission-critical environment.
The ideal candidate will be technically capable, calm under pressure, and committed to delivering exceptional service standards. You will enjoy working within a collaborative team while taking ownership of critical infrastructure that supports some of Australia's most important digital services.
Key Responsibilities
Support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of mission-critical data centre infrastructure.
Carry out facility rounds, inspections, testing, and monitoring activities to ensure optimal site performance.
Assist with the maintenance of electrical and mechanical infrastructure including UPS systems, generators, switchgear, transformers, chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, cooling systems, and associated plant.
Coordinate contractors and service providers performing maintenance, repairs,



and project works.
Support the development and review of operating procedures, maintenance plans, and site documentation.
Utilise BMS, CMMS, and DCIM systems to monitor facility performance and identify improvement opportunities.
Assist with troubleshooting, fault investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
Support customer requirements and build positive stakeholder relationships.
Contribute to operational reporting, power utilisation analysis, and performance monitoring.
Promote safe work practices and compliance with site procedures, permits, and risk controls.
Education, Experience & Skills
Trade qualification or technical certification in Electrical, Mechanical, HVAC, Refrigeration, or a related discipline.
Experience working within a data centre, critical environment, infrastructure, or facilities management environment.
Strong understanding of electrical systems including switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, ATS, STS, and power distribution systems.
Knowledge of mechanical plant including chillers, cooling towers, DX systems, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, and BMS systems.
Experience using CMMS, BMS, DCIM, or similar maintenance management platforms.
Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding capabilities.
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Ability to work within a 24/7 operational environment.




Experience working in a mission-critical or high-availability environment.
Knowledge of industry best practices relating to data centre operations.
Exposure to maintenance planning, contractor management, and operational reporting.
Experience with Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, Visio, or similar platforms.
Exposure to incident management and root cause analysis processes.
Workplace Flexibility
To support operational requirements, this position will be based full-time on-site in Erskine Park within a state-of-the-art data centre environment.
Shift Pattern:
This role operates on a rotating
4-on / 4-off roster
, comprising
12-hour day and night shifts
, including weekends and public holidays, supporting a 24/7 critical operations environment.
