Join Western District Health Service as an Associate NurseUnit Manager (ANUM) – Surgical Unit, where you'll work alongside the Nurse Unit Manager to support a safe, efficient, and patient-focused service.
This is a role for someone who values teamwork, mentorship, and continuous improvement, and who wants to further develop their leadership skills while making a genuine difference in the care and outcomes of surgical patients every day.
What You'll Be Doing As part of our committed clinical team, you'll provide protected, respectful, and person-centred care across: Leadership Team Coordination - Provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and support to the Surgical Unit team, fostering a collaborative, professional, and patient-focused environment while assisting the Nurse Unit Manager in achieving unit objectives and key performance indicators.
Clinical Operational Management - Coordinate and manage clinical and operational resources to support safe, effective, and efficient patient care.
Respond to changes in patient conditions, facilitate timely interventions, and work closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Patient Stakeholder Engagement - Develop and maintain professional, therapeutic relationships with patients, families, carers, general practitioners, allied health professionals, and external service providers to ensure coordinated, person-centred care and service delivery.
Resource Management Service Improvement - Support workforce planning, resource utilisation, and budget management to promote financial sustainability.
Contribute to quality improvement, risk management, accreditation activities, and initiatives that enhance patient safety and standards of care.
Leadership Support Deputising - Work in partnership with the Nurse Unit Manager to support the effective operation of the Surgical Unit and deputise when required, ensuring continuity of leadership and efficient management of staff and resources.
What You Bring Bachelor of Nursing and current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse Demonstrated clinical experience in an acute healthcare setting,



with surgical nursing experience desirable Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor, support, and develop nursing staff Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams Sound clinical judgement and the ability to recognise, respond to, and escalate changes in patient condition Experience in workforce coordination, resource management, and managing competing priorities Commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice Knowledge of NSQHS Standards, relevant legislation, professional standards, and safe work practices Why Join Western District Health Service?

The unit contains 26 beds, 6 day procedure chairs, and 3 labour rooms.
The Surgical Unit is a mixed ward covering a range of specialties including, General and Specialist Surgical, Medical, Paediatric and Obstetric patients.
Specialist surgeries include, Urology, Bariatric, Gynaecology, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), Ophthalmics, Orthopaedics, Gastroenterology, and Plastics.
