Chelgrave is seeking an experienced Automotive Sheet Metal worker / fabricator for a client in the South Eastern Suburbs of Melbourne 15th July, **** About the Role Chelgrave Contracting is seeking an experienced, trade-qualified Welder / Fabricator for an estimated 4-month casual assignment with a well-established client in the automotive sector.
This is hands-on sheet metal work in a busy workshop environment, fabricating and welding mild steel components down to 3mm gauge material.
If you take pride in clean, precise welds on lighter-gauge material and enjoy variety in your work, this role is for you.
Key Responsibilities Fabrication and welding of mild steel sheet metal components (down to 3mm) Reading and interpreting technical drawings and job specifications Cutting, folding, forming, and assembly of sheet metal parts Measuring, marking out, and fit-up with tight tolerances Grinding and finishing work to automotive quality standards Maintaining a safe, clean,



and organised work area About You Trade qualification (Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade or equivalent) Proven experience welding mild steel, particularly thin-gauge sheet metal, where heat control and distortion management are critical Confident MIG welder; TIG experience highly regarded Experience in automotive fabrication or a similar precision environment preferred Ability to read and work from engineering drawings Robust attention to detail and pride in the quality of your work Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team Own basic hand tools and PPE Valid driver's licence and reliable transport What's on Offer $***** per hour + super – excellent casual rate $30 per day travel allowance Estimated 4-month assignment with a reputable automotive client Day shift, Monday to Friday Supportive team environment with modern equipment Potential for extension or further opportunities for the right person Apply For Job
