Position: Telecommunications Technician Position Type : Full time, ongoing Salary: $79,000 to $82,000 plus superannuation per annum Location: Endeavour Hills VIC **** Our client is seeking a Telecommunications Technician to join their team working on projects throughout Victoria.
The Telecommunications Technician (NBN Field Technician) is responsible for installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing telecommunications network infrastructure, including fibre optic, copper, coaxial, and wireless technologies associated with the National Broadband Network (NBN).
The role involves field-based technical work across residential, commercial, and industrial sites to ensure high-quality and uninterrupted broadband services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: Installation and Commissioning ·Install telecommunications infrastructure including fibre optic cabling, conduits, and enclosures for underground networks.
·Conduct new service activations across various NBN technologies such as FTTP, FTTN, HFC, wireless, and satellite.
·Perform site assessments and ensure installations comply with technical specifications and safety standards.
Underground Infrastructure Construction ·Construct and maintain underground telecommunications infrastructure, including trenching, pit and pipe installations, conduit placement, and reinstatement works.
·Read and interpret network plans, dial-before-you-dig documentation, and asset location maps.
·Operate machinery and tools relevant to underground works, including trenchers and vacuum excavation equipment.
Testing and Fault Diagnosis ·Use specialised test equipment (e.g. OTDR, signal testers) to identify faults and verify installation quality.




·Diagnose and repair service faults to restore connectivity.
Customer and Site Interaction ·Liaise professionally with customers and stakeholders during field visits.
·Provide basic guidance on service use and ensure customer satisfaction.
Maintenance and Upgrades ·Conduct preventative maintenance on telecommunications infrastructure.
·Support infrastructure upgrades including equipment swaps and network expansions.
Documentation and Compliance ·Complete accurate records of field activities including test results, work logs, and site documentation.
·Adhere to all relevant WHS/OHS guidelines, industry regulations, and internal standards.
Required Qualifications and Experience: ·Certificate III in Telecommunications Technology (or equivalent) ·A minimum of 12 months of relevant experience ·Demonstrated experience in the construction and maintenance of underground telecommunications infrastructure.
·Experience in fibre optic or copper cabling installations, testing, and fault-finding.
·Valid Australian Driver's Licence.
Desirable Skills: ·Experience with NBN delivery partners and job management systems (e.g. Service Stream, Visionstream).
·Ability to interpret technical drawings, network schematics, and construction plans.
·Strong communication skills and ability to work independently in the field.
·Working safely around underground services and awareness of utility protection practices.
Work Environment: This is a field-based role requiring daily travel to job sites and customer premises.
The role involves physical work in outdoor environments and underground infrastructure zones, with adherence to strict safety standards.
