Roadways is Tasmania's largest road surfacing and pavement marking contractor with civil works capability.
Our asphalt is manufactured from our two plants, one located at our Wivenhoe plant, supplying surfacing crews and customers across the region, backed by our NATA-accredited laboratory in Bridgewater.
We're looking for an experienced
Asphalt Plant Supervisor
who will be responsible for producing every batch to specification and keeping production moving safely and efficiently.
You'll take ownership of the plant day to day, so we're looking for someone who works well independently, stays level-headed under pressure, and takes pride in the quality of their work.
What you'll be doing
Operating the fixed asphalt batching plant safely and efficiently
Accurately mixing aggregate, bitumen and additives to meet exact mix design specifications
Using strong mathematical ability to ensure accuracy
Planning and scheduling daily production to meet customer and project requirements
Managing trucks and delivery bookings on site — sequencing loads and juggling competing priorities as orders come in
Coordinating orders from internal and external clients
Monitoring plant performance and looking for ways to improve productivity, quality and plant availability
Maintaining a genuine safety culture, including pre-starts and pro-active maintenance
Investigating incidents and near misses, and following through on corrective actions
Coordinating routine maintenance with our maintenance team and contractors to minimise downtime
Operating the loader, forklift and EWP as required
Generating production tickets and maintaining accurate records in our production systems
Supporting quality assurance — sampling for laboratory to check specification compliance
Assist with managing raw materials, additives and consumables on site
Stepping up for after-hours, weekend and night work when the job calls for it
What you'll bring
Essential
Current Driver Licence and White Card
Demonstrated experience in asphalt plant/batching operations or a similar fixed manufacturing environment
Valuable mathematical ability — confident analysing mix quantities, ratios and adjustments accurately
Mechanical aptitude and experience coordinating maintenance
A genuine commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance
Solid computer skills, including MS Office and production management systems
Proven ability to juggle competing priorities — trucks, bookings and production schedules — and keep things moving
Strong communication skills, comfortable liaising with drivers, customers and other departments
A problem-solver's mindset and sound decision-making under pressure
Flexibility for night, weekend work (as required at times)
Self-motivation and the ability to run the plant independently with minimal supervision
Desirable (nice to have, not deal-breakers)
Loader, Forklift and/or EWP licences
Experience in production scheduling and truck bookings
Understanding of asphalt quality control processes and lab procedures
Current First Aid certificate
A continuous improvement mindset.
