At Blackmagic Design, we build some of the world's most advanced video production tools—from digital film cameras to colour correction software—used by creative professionals across film, television, and live broadcast.
We're a global company, but our Global Headquarters are right here in South Melbourne, where all design, engineering, and manufacturing is done in-house.
Since ****, we've been creating high-performance digital cinema technology that's used everywhere from Hollywood blockbusters to YouTube content creation.
Our software and hardware products push the limits of real-time processing and platform integration—and we're looking for a mid-level C++ Engineer with a strong systems background to join the team.
What you'll be doing
Developing and maintaining C++ code across desktop platforms (Windows, macOS, Linux), working close to the OS
Writing and maintaining drivers, kernel-level components, and low-level system services
Building internal toolkits and frameworks that other engineering teams rely on for cross-platform development
Working with OS-level APIs for device I/O, file systems, process/thread management, and hardware communication
Debugging platform-specific issues across Windows, macOS, and Linux, including driver installation, permissions, and system integration quirks
Collaborating with hardware engineers to bring up new devices and ensure reliable OS-level communication
Participating in end-to-end product cycles—from early prototypes through to shipping releases
What we're looking for
3+years of skilled C++ experience, with solid grounding in modern C++ (11/14/17)
Demonstrated experience working at the OS/systems level on at least two of: Windows, macOS, Linux
Experience writing or understanding of maintaining drivers, system services, or kernel extensions
Comfort working with low-level APIs (e.g. Win32/WDK, IOKit/DriverKit, Linux kernel modules or udev)
Experience building or maintaining internal tools, SDKs, or toolkits used by other developers
A practical, get-it-shipped mindset with attention to stability and performance
Bonus: experience with Qt, Python scripting, GPU APIs (Metal/Vulkan/DirectX), or mobile platforms (iOS/Android)
Why work with us
Build tools used daily by top creatives around the world
Work on the deep systems layer that everything else in the product depends on
Collaborate with a talented, multidisciplinary team in a hands‐on engineering environment
Work onsite in our purpose‐built South Melbourne HQ with full in‐house design, prototyping, and manufacturing
Join a team that values engineers who care about getting the fundamentals right
If you're passionate about writing great code and building innovative products used around the world, we'd love to hear from you — just hit Apply.
