Senior Accountant / Business Advisor

Trinity Advisory | Cairns, Far North Queensland
$140,000 to $150,000 + Super | Employee Equity | Up to $15,000 Relocation Assistance

Highlights

- $140K to $150K + Super + genuine employee equity

- Up to $15,000 relocation assistance available

- Established Cairns clients, genuine advisory and an exceptional lifestyle

What If Your Next Career Move Also Improved Your Life?

You did not train for seven years to spend the rest of your career processing compliance and watching the years disappear into another tax season.

And you do not necessarily have to choose between a serious accounting career and a great place to live.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant / Business Advisor to join Trinity Advisory in Cairns.

You will be joining a well-established Cairns practice with a loyal client base built over more than 15 years, working with business owners who already understand the value of good advice and expect more from their accountant than a tax return once a year.

And if you are not already living in Cairns, we are prepared to help you make the move, with up to $15,000 in relocation assistance available for the right person.

Why This Role Is Available

One of our senior accountants and business advisors is relocating south within Trinity to help support the growth of our new Brendale office.

That creates a rare opportunity in Cairns, and we want to be upfront about how the transition will actually work.

The current advisor will remain involved through a structured handover period. You will work alongside him and progressively take ownership of those client relationships as trust builds.

That is better for the clients and better for you. Instead of being handed a client list on day one and hoping for the best, you will have the opportunity to understand the businesses, build trust with the owners and grow into the relationships properly.

At the same time, you will also have the opportunity to develop relationships with new clients as Trinity continues to grow in Cairns.

You are not walking into a role that needs to be rescued or a client base that needs to be created from scratch. You are joining strong, long-standing relationships and building from an established foundation.

What You Will Actually Do

Yes, the technical work still matters. We are an accounting firm and we take it seriously.

But that is the starting point, not the finish line.

You will:

- Run financial statements, tax returns, GST and tax planning, done properly, not just done

- Lead client meetings and progressively take ownership of established client relationships

- Build relationships with new clients as the Cairns business continues to grow

- Sit across the table from business owners and explain what their numbers actually mean

- Dig into cash flow, pricing, margins, profitability and where the commercial opportunities sit

- Look beyond the numbers into positioning, niche, team, systems and culture when those things are affecting performance

- Turn what you uncover into practical decisions owners can actually act on

- Help clients improve performance rather than simply report what happened last year

- Develop long-term relationships with business owners who value advice and want someone prepared to challenge their thinking

If you enjoy asking why margins moved, where cash is disappearing, what pricing needs to change, what is holding the business back and what the owner should do next, you will probably enjoy this role.

An Established Client Base, Not a Promise of One

This is one of the biggest differences between this role and many so-called advisory positions.

You do not need to move to Cairns and hope the advisory work eventually turns up. The clients are already here.

Trinity has operated in the Cairns market for more than 15 years and has built a substantial base of loyal local business clients.

These are relationships we care deeply about, which is why the transition will be handled properly rather than rushed.

You will work predominantly with Cairns and Far North Queensland clients, so this is not a role where you will constantly travel back and forth to Brisbane.

Your career, your clients and your life can be based in Cairns.

Who Thrives Here

We need the technical bar met. But we need more than technical competence.

You will ideally have:

- 7+ years in public practice

- CA or CPA qualification

- Manager-level experience, or close enough that the gap is small

- Confidence owning client relationships and leading meetings

- The ability to tell a business owner an uncomfortable truth when it is the right call

- Genuine curiosity about how businesses make money, not just how they report it

- Strong capability across Xero, XPM, FYI, Excel modelling and AI-enabled workflows

- The confidence to develop relationships with established business owners

- A desire to become a genuine business advisor, not simply a more senior compliance accountant

We are looking for someone who wants responsibility and is ready to grow into it.

Genuine Equity Means Genuine Equity

Plenty of accounting firms talk about ownership pathways.

We would rather show you what we have actually done.

This year alone, Trinity gave more than $300,000 in equity to our employees, at no cost to them, through our employee share scheme.

That is not a vague promise that maybe one day there might be an opportunity to own something.

It is proof that our employees already have a genuine mechanism to become shareholders and participate in the value they help create.

We believe the people who help build Trinity should have the opportunity to share in what they build.

For the right person, this role can become much more than a salary.

Why Trinity

We do not expect you to take our word for it.

Ask our clients, or better yet, read what they say.

There are more than 50 client testimonials on our website, including more than 20 video testimonials.

The common theme is that businesses become stronger, margins improve and, for a number of our clients, profits have doubled over several years of working with us.

Our work has also been recognised externally:

- Boutique Firm Partner, Winner, Australian Accounting Awards, 2025

- Community Partner, Winner, Xero Awards Australia, 2024

- People's Choice, Winner, Xero Awards Australia, 2023

- Regional / Suburban Firm of the Year, Winner, Australian Accounting Awards, 2021

But some of the strongest evidence of the relationships we build is right here in Cairns.

Last November, around fifty of our clients and their partners came together in Cairns for our annual charity lunch and raised more than $500,000 for the local hospital foundation in a single day.

Over six years, that event has raised more than $1.8 million.

Nobody made those clients participate.

To us, it says something about the community surrounding Trinity and the relationships we have built with the business owners we work with.

And Then There Is Cairns

For someone already living in Cairns, you know what you have.

For someone considering a move from Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne or elsewhere, this might be the opportunity to change more than your job.

Cairns offers a very different way of living.

The reef, rainforest, beaches, warm weather and outdoor lifestyle are all on your doorstep, without having to step away from a serious professional career.

There is a financial side to the lifestyle equation too.

At $140,000 to $150,000 + Super, this is a strong professional salary, and housing in Cairns can be considerably more accessible than in many of Australia's major capital-city markets.

For the right person, that can mean more choice about where and how you live, while still building a serious career.

Because your clients are predominantly based in Cairns and Far North Queensland, you can build your skilled life here rather than constantly travelling south.

For the right person relocating to Cairns, Trinity will contribute up to $15,000 towards agreed relocation expenses.

We want the move to work for you, not simply the job.

Practical Details

This is an office-based role in Cairns, working closely with an established portfolio of Trinity business clients.

There will be client meetings and occasional site visits throughout the region, but this is fundamentally a Cairns-based position.

You will be backed by the broader Trinity team, systems, advisory methodology and technical resources while developing deep relationships with the clients you work with locally.

How to Apply

If you are already in Cairns and ready for a bigger role, we would like to hear from you.

And if you have been thinking about making the move north, this may be the reason to finally do it.

If you want serious advisory work, established client relationships, genuine equity and a career that can support a great life outside work as well, apply with your resume and a short cover letter telling us why this could be the move you are ready to make.
