JHW Paterson & Son is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Stockperson to join our team at Hells Gate Feedlot, a 25,000-head cattle feedlot located approximately 55km east of Balranald, NSW.

This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the day-to-day stock operations, maintaining high standards of animal welfare and ensuring cattle are managed safely, efficiently and to a consistently high standard.

The Role

Reporting to the Feedlot Manager, the Senior Stockperson will take responsibility for the stock team and play a key role in the performance and wellbeing of cattle throughout the feeding program.

Key responsibilities include:

- Leading, supervising and supporting the stock team

- Train and develop younger and less experienced staff.

- Lead by example in cattle handling, animal welfare and stockmanship

- Oversee daily cattle health, welfare and performance

- Monitoring cattle behaviour, health, condition and performance

- Ensuring high standards of animal welfare and fit-to-load compliance

- Monitoring cattle condition, behaviour and performance and communicating observations to the management team

- Maintaining accurate stock records and ensuring QA requirements are met

- Ensuring NFAS, company QA and animal welfare standards are followed

- Working closely with the Feedlot Manager, Mill and Feeding teams

- Maintaining a safe, clean and professional working environment

About You

We are looking for someone who:

- Has solid previous experience in a feedlot or large-scale cattle operation

- Has proven ability to lead and motivate a stock team





- Experience in people management and strong communication skills.

- Has excellent cattle handling and animal husbandry skills

- Can confidently identify cattle requiring treatment or further assessment

- Has a strong understanding of animal welfare and feedlot practices

- Takes pride in maintaining high standards

- Is organised, reliable and able to work independently and proficient in record keeping.

- Is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

- Has a genuine interest in cattle production and achieving strong cattle outcomes

Formal qualifications are desirable but not essential. Experience, attitude, practical ability and a strong understanding of cattle will be highly valued.
