Department of Radiation Oncology

Applicants are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Radiation Oncology Network, Western Sydney Local Health District.

The position commences on the 1st of February 2027 for a Fixed Term (12 months).

Successful applicants will build relationships of trust with patients and their families through compassion and respect for their dignity and cultural and religious beliefs, have effective interpersonal skills that bring out the best in colleagues, work well in multidisciplinary teams and demonstrate an ability to keep up to date with emerging radiation trends.

The Gynaecological / Genitourinary cancer radiation oncology fellowship position provides the Fellow an opportunity to gain a depth and breadth of knowledge in these tumour streams, and develop leadership, teaching and organisational skills. The fellow will participate actively in the tumour stream multi-disciplinary meetings, new and follow-up clinics, inpatient consultations at Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals as well as radiation treatment planning, according to a roster with 3 days per week of clinical commitments. Two days per week are allocated to research activities (with an existing portfolio of available research) with the expectation of submission of at least one manuscript or publication.

Radiation treatment in Western Sydney LHD is provided at both Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals. Around 2,000 courses of radiation treatment are delivered each year across the two hospitals with Varian TrueBeams using Eclipse as the planning system and ARIA as the cancer record. The full spectrum of radiation treatment options is offered including orthovoltage, brachytherapy, total body irradiation,



stereotactic body and brain as well as motion-management techniques and the care of paediatric patients. Excellent patient care and teamwork are at the core of everything we do. The department has a strong track record of teaching and training in radiation oncology. We have a strengthening reputation in research especially in the field of radiation biology.

Conditions of appointment are in accordance with the Staff Specialists (State) Award.

Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 6 months, may be considered. If successful, the applicant may not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed.

Selection Criteria

Please outline how you satisfy the selection criteria listed below. In addressing the selection criteria, include any relevant skills, knowledge, qualifications and experience: Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must have successfully completed all examinations of the RANZCR, Faculty of Radiation Oncology. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license. Sound clinical knowledge in Radiation Oncology demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an workplace appropriate to the requirements of the position. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:



Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues. Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships. Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system. Demonstrated aptitude for clinical leadership which is evidenced by: Systems thinking and risk-taking aptitude. commitment to self -care and personal development. Capacity to maintain personal integrity, tolerate stress and demonstrate resilience. Commitment to building relationships, leading, and developing others. Results and outcome focused Commitment to teaching of radiation oncology trainees, JMOs and allied health staff. Commitment to undertake clinical duties at both Blacktown and Westmead Hospitals according to the needs of the Radiation Oncology service for at least 60% of employed time. Actively participate in research and quality assurance / quality improvement activities of the Department, including undertaking a research or quality improvement project agreed by the staff specialist group.
