Job Description
About the role and about you
We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to lead our organisation‑wide safety strategy, governance and culture, ensuring our people can perform their work safely while continuing to deliver outstanding outcomes for our customers. Reporting to the Director, Safety Operations, you will provide expert leadership and advice to senior leaders while driving SGCH's health and safety framework, compliance obligations and continuous improvement agenda. You'll lead a dedicated safety team and partner with leaders across the business to embed a strong and sustainable culture of safety.
To succeed in this role, you will be a confident and collaborative safety leader with a strong track record of influencing stakeholders, driving cultural change and delivering practical safety outcomes.
This is a permanent role, based at our Redfern office and requires regular travel to other SGCH office locations including Liverpool, Bonnyrigg and St Leonards.
Duties
- Lead and continuously improve SGCH's Health and Safety Management System.
- Lead, coach and develop the Safety Operations team.
- Provide expert WHS advice and support to the wider organisation, including developing and leading training.
- Oversee incident management, investigations and corrective actions.
- Drive WHS governance,
compliance and risk management activities.
- Leverage data insights report and improve safety performance.
- Conduct audits, inspections and proactive risk assessments.
- Foster a positive, inclusive and safe workplace culture.

Essential Criteria
Desired Skills and Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in a related field and/or substantial experience in Work Health & Safety, Risk, Compliance, Operations, or a related discipline within a service delivery environment.
- Strong knowledge of WHS legislation, workers compensation, return‑to‑work programmes, and risk management frameworks, including psychosocial risk obligations.
- Demonstrated success leading WHS functions and teams, with accountability for risk management, incident investigations, contractor management, audits, compliance, and continuous improvement.
- Highly developed leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence at all levels, drive positive safety culture, and balance strategic priorities with operational outcomes.
- Holds a NSW Full Drivers License
