An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced Lead Family/Carer Peer Support Worker (Grade 4) to join the Merri-bek Community Team within Northern Health's Mental Health Division.

Northern Health is the major provider of acute, maternity, sub-acute, mental health, specialist, community and home-based services in Melbourne's rapidly growing outer north.

Services are provided through our six main campuses:

Northern Hospital Epping, Broadmeadows Hospital, Bundoora Centre, Craigieburn and Mernda Community Hospitals Centres and Kilmore District Hospital.

In addition, Mental Health Services are provided at Epping, Broadmeadows, Jacana, Preston, Mill Park, Mernda and Coburg.

About Mental Health Division:

Northern Health is the third largest mental health service in Victoria Northern.

Within the Mental Health Division, we pride ourselves on providing high quality mental health services to people living in the northern regions of Melbourne, and work in a collaborative way with consumers and carers based on recovery principles.

We aim to provide strong clinical leadership to support all staff in the provision of qualified treatment and care by our integrated community teams, inpatient, and residential services.

About the Role:

We are located centrally in Coburg - close to Public Transport and parking options.

The Merri-bek Community team is a large, supportive and dynamic team made up of staff that are truly passionate and motivated in supporting consumers and their families/carers.





We provide a comprehensive range of specialist mental health services to people who reside in the local government areas of Merri-bek and Hume.

We are recruiting for a Lead Family/Carer Peer Support Worker to guide, orientate and supervise level 3 peer workers within the team and the wider service.

The Lead Family/Carer Peer support Worker also provides peer support to the families and carers attending the team by utilising their own lived experience of supporting someone with mental health challenges.

Our peer workers also promote the voice of our families and carers through advocacy, ensuring that they are included in treatment planning for the consumer and that they receive support for their own wellbeing.

The Lead Family/Carer Peer Support Worker is part of the local leadership group and will develop and implement a broad range of initiatives and projects related to peer work for the team.

This position is permanent part time (4 days a week). Whilst predominately based in Coburg, there will be work required from the Hume Team based in Broadmeadows on occasions.

To be successful in this role you will have:

- Cared for someone living with mental ill-health who is/has accessed mental health services
- Previous experience as a Family/Carer Peer Support Worker
- Completion of the Intentional peer Support Training preferable




- Formal qualifications with relevance to Family/Carer Peer support work preferable
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills
- Well developed knowledge and understanding of the public mental health service environment
- Demonstrated capacity for strategic thinking
